  1. Cignetti is only 63-years old...That may seem older for what we would ideally want for a coach on paper, but its really not...He would come in and Win...If he can turn Indiana around this fast, I believe he could get us back on track too...UF should definitely consider him.
    ...Or at least Google him.

“Death spiral”? LMAO at such drama.
Only way Billy keeps his job is to win at least 6 games and that’s not likely. And if he does, and we see real improvement, then worse things could happen. He may be on a Dabo-type learning curve. So much would depend upon what this team looks like in the process of winning 3+ more games in the back half of this schedule.

That said, if we could get a Cignetti or a Klieman to agree to be our next HC, then you pull the trigger and make it happen. But my original point all along has been that we won’t get those guys to commit to us until they’ve completed this regular season with the teams they’re currently coaching.

What part? That I think we win more games with an interim?

Ok so your argument must be that you think we win more games with Napier than under an interim. I disagree although in the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal. The big deal is he is eventually fired and we get our top choice after a legitimate search

Who is yelling that fans shouldn’t talk about the future? Where did you come up with that one Bud?
Let’s just accept that you and I do not see eye-to-eye on anything and likely never will.

Do you think Cignetti or any other coach with a good team will up and leave them mid-season to come to UF?

We fired Zook mid season which let us keep him fired even after he miraculously won at FSU which otherwise might have saved his job.
Doing that gave us the flexibility to hire Urban After his season was done.

It also saves us buyout $. It’s all just talk now. Billy holds his future by a thread so let’s see.

And this is the issue. Napier shouldn’t keep his job unless he gets to 8 wins

The danger is he gets to 6 based on a weakening schedule (MSU, UCF, Samford, and FSU are all relatively easy games). Winning 2 games against teams with a pulse is not good enough.

Thats why I want him fired now because I don’t want that debate to even happen at 6-6. Keeping him at 6-6 is the worst scenario of all.

If you guaranteed me we fire him unless he gets to 8 then feel free to keep him the rest of the season.

It doesn’t save us anything. Billy gets paid the rest of 2024 whether he coaches or not

I don’t care if he comes midseason. An interim is as good or better than Billy. And firing him now avoids the 6-6 risk and lets us start back channeling.

What do you feel is the downside of firing him now?

I mainly want to avoid Billy getting to 6-6 and having people talk themselves back into it.

    I’d put the O/U at 5.5

    Our schedule got substantially easier.

6 wins is simply beating FSU who is absolutely awful + a coin flip game with UK + and then winning one more. Even if we have a 15-20% chance at any one of our tough games, that implies that we should win one of them. Thats 6-6 and we are in the danger zone. 6-6 and being 1-6 against ranked opponents is nowhere close to good enough but I can see people talking themselves into it

He shouldn't keep the job regardless. He's vastly underachieved after hiring one of the largest staffs ever to rebuild the organization in his vision. His vision is bad and it's a below average strategy overall apparently. That's really all there is to it.

3 years is long enough to prove this given lack of any real and measurable improvement.

Only way he keeps the job is our university's leadership sucks, which given the performance of the athletic director and that we don't have an actual president is also true.

The players. What's best for them, the rest of the season?

You've given lots of useful information, I'll grant that. But I don't really see anybody who cares much about the players. I won't claim it is THE factor. But it should be A factor.

I still care about student-athletes. Perhaps that's my flaw. It's an entertainment business, unrelated to the University...of Florida.

I do not think anyone expects a coach to up and leave their team in the middle of the season. No one is suggesting that.
Firing Napier does announce that UF is now seriously coach hunting. There is zero chance that agents for all sides interested have not started reaching out and feeling out how serious the other side is.
UF firing Napier now moves that needle into the very serious category.
The only down side.. can UF beat FSU with an interim coach? Because after tonight.. I don’t see us winning another game with or without Napier.

Correction. Indiana has been bottom tier of the big ten for almost forever. It's why I laugh when people bring up their schedule this year so far. They have always been trash regardless of schedule and yet Cig has them winning with arrogance. Don't care how weak their schedule was , the improvement was significant and immediate.

There are plenty of people here who believe Kiffin is openly stating his desire to coach florida through thinly veiled tweets 3 games into the season lol.

I think he gets a flat buyout on firing. He earns salary until that happens. Thus, he earns $3.5M for the last half of the season if he works plus $26M if fired after the season versus $26m if fired now (saving $3.5M). Of course an interim would have to be paid so may be close to a wash.
