Yes the UF fanbase has a lot of pearl clutchers, it’s just not a big deal to me. Just win. Every coach is a douche unless they are your coach.

But he’s not coming here so it’s really not an issue.

I have no problem with a coach being a douche. Rather not have a Kirby/Bowden/Fisher level scumbag but I'm ok with a coach others don't like. I just think this particular type of stuff is off limits from a professional. Again, either he isn't fully committed to one of If not his best prospective teams or he's vindictively clowning florida. If it's the 2nd and I'm an Ole Miss fan I'm OK with it as long as he's putting up results. Right now I can't say which one it is and he isn't lighting the world on fire with their season so far in either event.

Gotta disagree with your logic here. There’s a big price to pay for running coaches through here every 3 years. That’s how we got to the bottom of the hole we’re in. “Anybody” is not better for our program than the guy currently in the seat.

I’m all for pulling the plug on Billy if the right guy comes available, but until that happens we really are better off letting this continue to play out this season. Either Billy starts to turn the corner, or we make the move after the season is over and more candidates become viable. A desperation move is destined to fail and result in an even deeper hole

Yeah, am I the only one who reads stuff like this and wonders if we’ve awakened in some kind of dark alternate reality?

    1. Hire football GM or “President”. Thats like 1.5m. He drives recruiting

    2. Overpay for best OC in the land

    3. Overpay for best DC in the land

They run their sides of the ball

    4. Hire a strong analytical staff

    5. Hire an analytical decision maker for some HC decisions. When to go for it, when to call TO

That’s likely cheaper than the typical model. I’m not sure if it’s better but it’s cheaper

This will be the way of the future. The current (old) model is running on fumes. Kirby Smart, and to a lesser extent, perhaps Dan Lanning will be the last ultra successful singular forces. The Saban/Urban/Spurrier/Jimmy/Osbourn/Switzer college football model is gone and never coming back.

At some point, these AD’s are going to get smart enough not to be held hostage by Jimmy Sexton. The biggest issue is that the new model will continue to erode the importance of their own jobs.

The NFL model with GM’s, coaches, directors of player personnel is coming. UF already has hired a consulting service (The Athlete Group) to navigate this.

scoff if you want, but college football is changing. You may not like it, but you better accept it.

I'm kind of shifting to this perspective. I want Billy gone. Good guy, but not the guy to get us there, and in the age of the transfer portal and NIL, not even the Zook to stock the shelves for the next guy.

But there isn't anyone out there that moves the needle for me this year. If Napier leaves, the new guy isn't going to be some hot up and comer, and the new guy isn't going to be an established guy that we know can get us to the SEC championship. We are just rolling the dice again. And next year's schedule is just as bad as this year's. There isn't a Spurrier or Saban in the NFL itching to get back to college ball. And there isn't a Meyer running the table at a G5. I'm not sold on Kiffin, and outside of him, is there anyone else who looks ready for the challenge of being the head coach at Florida?

Ironically Napier might make a good GM, focused on support staff/ relationships/recruiting/talent identification. Too bad we could never transition like that

I answered the question in the post I quoted. Personally I'm not the biggest fan so you'd be better off asking one of the Lane enjoyers.

Short of player personnel decisions being facilitated by a GM your ideas lead to chaos. There is no direct line of authority with everyone operating as siloed interests. The players/team will
lack any connective forces and the organization as a whole will be disjointed

No, that would be our current coaching situation. I realize there are various reasons Deion is hated around these parts. He has basically disowned FSU, so he gets a pass in my book. Plus, he's a damn good coach. A guy who's able to bring the NBA's biggest stars and other big celebs to football games in Boulder, Colorado would probably produce #1 recruiting classes at UF every year. People love Deion Sanders. I want to win... and I do NOT want to see him end up at FSU. That would be bad.

Other than some of the notable recruiting staffers, I'm not aware of of many positives from his hiring of staff, on the field and off. We've cycled through nearly every original coach he brought after less than three seasons, he maintains the 2 OL coach model that hasn't resulted in much if any return, he kept/promoted underperforming S&C and ST coaches just to add more, and I don't know what success to point to from the army of staffers because the on the field product doesn't show the benefit. If anything, people have argued Napier should be kept all season because there's no one on staff qualified to take over as an interim. I like some things that he's accomplished and again, I think he seems like a good man. But from the outside looking in with no insight into the deep inner workings of the program, I simply don't agree that he's shown any particular aptitude in hiring or staffing.

    Why?

O and D are separate units with zero overlapping players. I don’t give a crap if they know each other. They need to just dominate. They’d have clear authority and elite coaching if we hired the absolute best OC and DC in the world. Since we won’t be paying $10m for a HC we can do that. The QB effectively “reports” into the OC. OC has full autonomy on O outside of game management decisions made by the analytical staff.

Compare that to our current situation. We hire a HC that isn’t an expert (or even average) at anything. And now we cannot afford the best staff in the world, and structurally even if we did they wouldn’t have the authority due to the expensive no nothing HC

Until college goes minor league NFL with a draft and contracts the players “sign on” to play for HC and his vision/relationship. The idea of GM to facilitate the going rate, prioritize areas of need and ink NiL/revenue sharing the coaches still “recruit” and the HC coach still sets the Tone/expectations with in the program

Stick to the theoretical for discussion sake. You appear to lack a understanding of the dynamic involving chemistry of team sports and football specifically. The need to individually is antithetical to to a ‘team’ sport. Decision making by analytical committee that oc and dc default to what could go wrong?

Secondly what makes you think we are able to hire the best of any the 3 positions GM OC Dc when we havent been able to find a capable guy in 4 tries to be average

Look, schools are already utilizing player personnel and gm types. The head coach will still run the show and be the recruiting closer.....but don't tell me a guy like Mark Pantoni isn't a gm equivalent at Ohio st. That's the model
