His biggest problem is the line of scrimmage and he cannot invent talent midseason. He should’ve done something about this coming into this season.
It's his evaluation process. He's been great with runningbacks. Outstanding actually. But he has sang the praises of the defense two preseasons in a row and did the same for the offensive line this year and yet the products have been bad. At a minimum he should have learned to undersell the team instead of hyping them up but he seems like a genuine guy and he genuinely thought he had something which in and of itself is a problem.
This was the first game that we looked like we had an SEC defense in 3 years. That was nice. The down side is that Napier Sparano’d (may he RIP) it in the second half —playing hyper-conservative with the hope that a field goal margin wins the day.
James Franklin won't get us over the hump. He's the Mark Richt of the Big 10...except he's kind of a jerk.
KJ Jefferson was a statue back there. UCF honestly, might not win another game after the Cincinnati game. Game was too close for comfort, when they cut it to 24-13, just felt like they were going to make it 24-20, especially after this offensive possession and not scoring in the 2nd half: I just wanted to see the first true full game played by the gators (samford doesn't count) 1st & 10 at FLA 25 (7:49 - 4th) Tank Hawkins run for 4 yds to the FLA 29 2nd & 6 at FLA 29 (7:14 - 4th) Ja'Kobi Jackson run for 19 yds to the FLA 48 for a 1ST down 1st & 10 at FLA 48 (6:42 - 4th) DJ Lagway pass complete to Tank Hawkins for a loss of 3 yards DJ Lagway fumbled, recovered by FLA Tank Hawkins 2nd & 13 at FLA 45 (5:56 - 4th) DJ Lagway run for 3 yds to the FLA 48 3rd & 10 at FLA 48 (5:35 - 4th) Florida Penalty, false start (Knijeah Harris) to the FLA 43 3rd & 15 at FLA 43 (5:13 - 4th) DJ Lagway pass complete to Chimere Dike for 7 yds to the 50 yard line 4th & 8 at 50 (4:27 - 4th) Jeremy Crawshaw punt for 36 yds
His record against our rivals isn't very good either. FSU, Tn, LSU, UGAG and Meeahmi. You have to be able to get your team up for those and win some. His lackadaisical attitude seeps in his every pore.
I doubt that any of the top dogs would come at this point. I'm sure they all realize that he is toast.
Yep. I figured Napier would be given another "hire an OC" year. But we've zoomed past that point. Only wins will save his job, recruiting and the ability to hire better staff and a great OC.
I think he needs to go 7-5 to keep his job. I'm rooting for him but I have my doubts. I hope he proves me wrong.
With a 12 team playoff, 10 win seasons at UF will probably get you in. We aren't competing with the big dogs anytime soon and I don't see a lot of coaches out there that will get us there, even Kiffin. 7-6 7-6 11-3 11-2 9-4 11-2 4-5 (Covid) 7-6 11-2 10-3 5-0 I'd take that at UF. I know we all want the Spurrier/Meyer glory days but UF as a program isn't a Blue Blood. Two Hall of Fame level coaches that close to each other was great but not the norm for UF.
Not saying we should "expect" Meyer/spurrier results but this idea florida was a flash in the pan is something I will always disagree with. We came around much later than traditional powers because of population demographics and the lack of air conditioning. Charlie Pell had Florida becoming a national power before the good ole boy network put a stop to it so that's Pell,Spurrier and Meyer that experienced elite success here. Our problem has been that we haven't been able to keep a coach past ten years like a number of other programs have for various reasons but all three premier coaches were at the top of the business. Florida was top 3 in wins as a program for an entire decade in the 90s narrowly beaten by fsu and Nebraska and then rose to elite status in the 2000s again after a brief "lull" of 8 win seasons. We have simply hired majorly flawed coaches in recent times. Florida will always be a tough place to win it all because we have always played difficult schedules but the floor should be 7 to 8 win seasons. I believe Florida won all 3 titles with the number 1 ranked strength of schedule when it was all said and done. One of those years may have been 2nd but the point stands. It's not an easy road here but quality football should be expected.
A great coach learns his weak areas in year one and makes definitive changes that correct them. This is year three. Napier is just not a good coach. Period.
I never understand the A/C thing. The South is hot. It didn't hinder other programs in the South. I think Franklin could easily provide quality football.
People didn't populate florida until much later than many other states. Ac facilitated population shifts. Florida’s Sweltering Life Before Air-Conditioning – The Parklander Magazine – Connecting you to our community.
What’s franklins offensive philosophy? I’m really looking forward to an uptempo attacking O. Franklin seems to me to want to rely on a power run game. But I don’t watch much psu football
