Frost to Nebraska was universally viewed as THE home run hire of that coaching cycle. It didn’t work out, but virtually everyone lauded the hire.

You couldn't fault him for going home when he was called. I watched him coach locally in Central Florida and was always impressed with him. I think you'll see him again somewhere. He just wasn't quite ready for prime time, so, in the end, I'm glad that didn't play out at UF (for us and him, as well).

Having said that, I always wonder what circumstances allowed the rise to fame at a none destination like UCF. They had to have had passion, coaching ability and people skills to get the team bought in. They were kicking it and then boom! Crickets at his Alma mater, where you would expect total buy in. Curious. Happens all the time.

I think there are times when a young coach has trouble hiring a great staff because the staff are older than him and feel like they deserve the job more.

Don't tell Kannel and FSU that, they may start curling up in the fetal position.

He was known for wanting to bring his entire staff with him. Loyal guy. But, I think that was actually supposed to have been one of the non-starters for UF during the process.

This is how it went on “the thread” too. It’s not going to get thousands of responses on its own!

    and did you say “popping?”

not sure this thread is ready for the “popping” images yet.

Since it's slow and the thread went off the rails, I wonder where the program would be if the 12 team playoff was around for Mullen's years here. Not that his negligence wouldn't have reared his head but who knows how things would have transpired. Theoretically we were playing as good as anyone by the end of 18 and 19 with a better defense than the '20 team had. Maybe sniffing a title game or championship sends him to the NFL and we aren't looking for a CEO wannabe Saban clone "up and comer" and pick up someone else. Just interesting to think about.....eh...painful actually

There were lots of rumors about personal turmoil spilling over into the job, either creating too many distractions or preventing him from dealing with his coaching responsibilities appropriately. I don't know anything about the situation, but I did wonder from the outside looking in if "going home" was a double edged sword for him, with the negative aspects outweighing all of the expected positives. Because the end result was unexpectedly awful. And if that was the case, would those same problems have happened, or been as destructive, sonewhere else?

I agree. Those teams were humming in the major bowl games. I suppose it's possible for them to win the CFP. There were a lot of outstanding players in those two teams. We'll never know now.

Rip the bandaid off and let's get going. Lane not only brought Ole Miss to a top 5 team, look at what he did at FAU. Do you know what their slogan is? Winning in Paradise. Nice touch.

To win national championships here at UF, year and year out you have to recruit well. Lane recruits well. Lane also has been experienced enough to understand what it means to be humbled and how to reframe that into a positive and use it as a means of transmutation that energy into something equal to or greater. Energy is neither creator nor destroyed only transformed. Plus he has that intangible. That undefineable quality, does he not? He almost got Ronald Powell from Urban as HBC at USC.

Take a look at the Florida Atlantic program overall. They are the owls. They have excellent color coordination, design, and I see them becoming a contender down the road.

    Just do it.

Just imagine for an instant the Gators grabbing five stars out of the blue left and right up and down out of nowhere. If you do this, I will ensure this happens. We all will. We will be committed to a cause greater than ourselves, will we not? So what are we waiting for? Do we not have the funds? Has someone not made a deal? Make a deal now. Period. This is not something you play coy with.

Again, just my expertise. My last name is Lawyer and I did hear that surnames were often based on the father's occupation. So if anything, it's in my blood, title or no title. I can't even create Facebook using my real name as they think I'm a business. What kind of bs is that? What if my name was Tyson Judge, I'd bet you they'd allow that. What about the name Lawyer makes it so taboo? Is it numerology, linguistics***, gematria, astrology, cosmology, etc. I'm not asking for just me but for all of humanity.

Yeah, we can just get any coach, most will take a pay cut to be here. We're that good and who wouldn't want to work for our AD/UAA?
