Agreed, spirit animal squirrel. That said he may be the best option available.
We don't want the d line coach from west upchuck poly tech.

Simply because Lane Kiffin has been a douchebag and an asshole most of his professional career, and he has delighted in trolling UF in the past. He may have finally grown out of being a douche, but it’s likely the asshole is still there

I think if the next coach is basically interviewed by a group of the core boosters who will be funding the NIL,and satisfied the money will flow, that’s all that will matter. The next guy needs to be satisfied that the players he wants will be paid enough to come.

Hopefully they are all on the same page about who they want. That will be important IMO.

Well that wasn’t on your first list, lol. I totally agree, Nukese Kiffin was an embarrassing asswipe of a douche that I despised. But, his public persona has really changed after being humbled into the Saban School of Rehab. He went from being an ass to a self-deprecating, funny (and competent) guy. I like the guy now, and have since FAU.

Again, not saying he is the best fit, but as we have learned first hand, coaches with success at smaller schools have not worked out exactly. There is no real way to know. Not saying Bell is the one, but hiring someone who cares about the program deeply when they are not employed here could be a difference

....and since we've only been screwed over the last 4 times, utterly impossible that it could possibly happen again.

    Got it.

    ...but I'm the delusional one.

Which time? The first time he was raiders coach from 1998 to 2001 and won 2 division titles and made the AFC title game and probably should have made it to the Super bowl had it not been for the "Tuck" rule. The following season he went to Tampa Bay and became the youngest coach to ever win the Super bowl, giving TB their 1st trophy and setting their franchise records for wins.

Lane would be my choice, but the Gruden angle is intriguing a bit to me. And if he motivated to succeed who knows but let's not act like he hasn't been a successful coach in his career.

"He held his first head coaching position with the Raiders franchise during their Oakland tenure from 1998 to 2001, where he won two consecutive division titles and made an AFC Championship Game appearance. Gruden was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, which he led to their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XXXVII the same season. At age 39, he was the then-youngest head coach to win the Super Bowl. He served as Tampa Bay's head coach through 2008, setting the franchise record for wins, but made only two further playoff runs.

It's very easy to avoid this with a modicum of paying attention.

No kidding but the point stands. A known quantity versus a shot in the dark with someone we find under a rock.

Just listening to the Shane Matthews podcast this Friday morning. His guest at the time was Frank Frangie, the voice of the jaguars and a gator graduate. Frangie brought up some past stories on coaching changes.
Frank said that after Will Muschamp was hired to coach the gators, he flew in the Florida plane to Jacksonville to interview Kerwin for his offensive coordinator. He says they had a 4 1/2 hour whiteboard discussion going over all the Xs and Os. At the end of it when they were talking, will told Kerwin that he was going to suggest that Kerwin would be hired as his offensive coordinator. Then Frank said, but they wouldn’t hire Kerwin. I don’t know who the “they” are.
Every time we have a coaching change the name Kerwin Bell comes up, but it’s quickly dismissed for whatever reasons.
Both Frank and Shane are mystified that Kerwin never gets an interview or is brought in. They just can’t understand what it is that someone is holding against Kerwin . But the real kicker was, they both agreed that if Kerwin had been Will Muschamps offensive coordinator, there’s a good chance Will would still be coaching today and that we wouldn’t have gone through this whole carousel of coaches.
I will leave it to better football minds than mine to comment on the validity of that idea. I just found it very interesting.

Hence why I said he's unproven in cfb. He is intriguing, but I suspect he doesn't have the following with today's athletes as Lane does.

I remember Kerwin getting interviewed for the OC position and not getting it, but never heard any backstory or context. I think that's when Muschamp hired Brent Pease.

Some facts here, Muschamp interviewed Kerwin in 2011 after his first season when Weis headed off to Kansas.

There was also talk he wanted Applewhite (who he worked with at UT). I remember that, and bringing in Weiss was probably a big mistake. Probably not THE mistake, but certainly one of several that have led us to this point.

Kind of reminds be how brother Bill Oliver's name always came up when talking defensive coordinators.
Their does appear to be an obsession with Kerwin Bell.

Oh and my biggest take home from that discussion -- Frangie loves SS and doesn't see him as a problem.
