If we go for a big name coach with proven experience, I really feel like it's Kiffin or bust. Hell, I think it should be Kiffin or bust regardless.

Dabo Swinney, Ryan Day, and Lincoln Riley aren't coming. Lanning and Rhule both seem like a stretch. Guys like James Franklin, Mark Stoops, Gundy, Drinkwitz, Key, Klieman, etc. are all underwhelming candidates. Hard NO on Deion. The rest of the "big" names discussed like Urban, Saban, Gruden, Jimbo Fisher (lol) are simply not going to happen.

Are there any "up and comers" worthy of discussion? Are Golesh and Chadwell the only candidates who would move the needle? IMO, they are both risks that we really can't afford.

Anything other than Kiffin sure seems like a disappointing option at the moment.

What about Mike Vrabel? Some college experience, former NFL coach of the year, still relatively young and currently available. Might not want to be a college coach and would probably leave for osu if they offered. But a lot better option than some of the names being thrown around

Just don't expect Kiffin and go from there. What have we seen from this administration that makes anyone confident they will land a big fish? People are setting themselves up for a let down and the new guy will be feeling the pressure immediately.

^ You answered your own question. He's going to be an NFL head coach again, possibly as soon as next year.

^ Well said, and that's what worries me. I'm hoping for the best, but prepared for disappointment. Pretty much sums up life as a Florida fan over the last 15 years.....

Totally fair. I think he'd likely do great here, even if it was for limited time and didn't result in a national championship (or rwo). He's an all time great and would obviously be a step up from what we have. In comparison to other candidates? Well, we all have our opinions. But I wouldn't bet against Meyer's success if he ever wanted to coach again. My $.02.

Wait- are we talking about Urban Meyer?
    "Two poor seasons?" Which 2?
His last year wasn't great...8-5 and the Outback (2010.) I wouldn't call this poor. 5-7 IS Poor!
The one before that was...13-1 and 3rd in the nation. Not poor.

Urban Meyer is arguably the 2nd best coach of this century.
He's got a case for the best, but he's certainly in the top 3.

Whether he can do that again, now at his age, is debatable.

I really think we are in a good position to land a great coach. It will take a very strategic plan from UAA/ big boosters/ Stricklin but can be done. It is game theory and we must play it to perfection.
Sounds like we all want Kiffen as he is my first choice as well. The fact that there are other big names that are attainable and a threat to taking the coaching job that Kiffen wants helps us. I like the Kiffen or bust mentality but the threat that we might could hire the following others helps us get Kiffen:
    James Franklin
    Ryan Day
    Dabo Swinney
    Mike Gundy
    Bill O'brien
    Matt Rhule
    Jeff Brohm
    Chris Kleiman
    Jon Gruden
    Brent Key
    Vrabel
    Urban Meyer

Now if we don't get Kiffen then we need to interview the names above hard. I would love to know what James Franklin buyout is if we stole him. He might be my 2nd choice behind Kiffen but he might be the better coach for us. Gundy intrigues me as well and so does Gruden if we are convinced he can build a great staff and navigate transfer portal and NIL

Im not saying he is the best fit for the job, but I feel he gets discredited quickly. Surprised he has never been interviewed.

And if they don’t get kiff it will be underwhelming but also expected. We ahave taken the cheaper route almost every time, well, every time?

Why should he even get an interview?
He has never been a head coach on the FBS level.
He needs to coach at least at a Toledo or similar and show he can win there first.

Hell he has been at West Carolina (FCS) for 3 yrs and has a 17-16 record.

He's a former gator QB so he must be a great coach also. UF looking in the past and not ahead is one of the many reasons we suck right now.
