I'm pretty sure USCe and Aubrin went after Coach Napier and he spurned them because Saint Nick told him to wait on Florida. I may be wrong and if so, please let me know.
Which is why I asked the question. People that didn't attend UF, can't even afford to attend the games, much less donate money to the University proper or the UAA, yet bitch and moan about how we are handling things? They need to be shown the door. Why would anyone listen to them? Yet we give them an audience.
Not mental gymnastics at all. Mullen flat out failed/quit at UF and is currently trying to revise his history by throwing UF under the bus. No humor in that for me at all. Btw, guess I'm inadvertently contributing to the page count here. Page 100 right around the corner. Maybe, but I'd rather be the HC at FAU, making a million bucks a year and living in Boca Raton than under Saban's thumb living in Bama. Maybe just me tho.
Not sure " he did pretty well' in his tenure at UF, but certainly have sympathy for his family situation.
It is your choice. You can do what you want to. But going to FAU is not in a good football coach's DNA. A good football coach wants to go to a big time school and win big. That is in their DNA!
It is just you! Big time football coaches want to be at big time programs. That is why they serve on the staff of big time programs. They want the recommendations of big time coaches. It is all about winning on a national level! It is all about ego!
Napier should have been successful. He checked all the boxes. But it is not about checking all the boxes. It is about winning all the games.
That's right Napier and Kiffin both passed on Auburn, so they ended up with Freeze and many tiger fans aren't too happy. They are 2-4 might only win 3-4 games this year and were 6-7 last year in freezes first year. This would be their 4th straight losing season. Yea, misery loves company and there is a lot of misery on the Plains.
Sure, most every coach wants to be the HC at a big time program, but not every coach wants to be under another coach's thumb for long. Sark at Texas is the exception when it comes to Saban's OCs getting big time jobs. Most have not moved directly to big time programs, nor won any championships. Sark was previously the HC at USC and Washington and that also factored into his hiring at Texas, not just Saban's rehab program.
Yep, a whole lot of fans liked the hire, but I think they missed a few boxes that needed checking. To me his coaching style was perfect....for the 80s.
isnt he a Vandy alum? If so, with all the SEC tv money they may be able to keep him if he wants to stay “home”.
Vandy could have a legit football program if they choose to. It just costs money which I believe they have plenty of. Their too proud of their intellect to subcribe to the caveman sport.
USCe definitely wanted to hire Billy, but they were unwilling to go all in on the re$ource$ he and Sexton were demanding to fund the army. I never heard anything solid related to him and Auburn, doesn’t mean there was nothing there though. Va Tech wanted to hire him too, but nothing materialized for similar reasons as USCe. I still find it interesting that LSU had zero interest in Billy.
It offers them no real advantage to be good at football and would require lowering academic standards. They're in Nashville too which already has the Titans, not like other SEC teams where their city and in some case state don't have any competition athletically.
