He was checking with the analytics department if using a timeout to avoid the ten second runoff was appropriate in that situation. I hate analytics. It seems like a cheap reason to not admit that you have no feel for the game.
You always have a "guaranteed" play in your back pocket . . . hopefully several . . . something nobody has seen. Dial it up. Play for the win on the road. That's been the axiom ever since I coached AAU in the 1980s. So we got UcheaT to waste a TO? Dial up the second best play.
To me going for two in a very hostile stadium with a young quarterback is definitely a better choice than trying to sustain an offense through overtime. Hindsight is 20/20 I realize but to me it’s a no-brainer. Take a shot, put the ball in the hands of your best athlete you’re running quarterback. I knew we were doomed when number 70 ended up at right tackle for extended playing time during crunch time. We were collapsing on the right side of the offensive line. I give the Gator players great credit for sustained effort that was good enough to win.
i also feared the play he would call. However, I figured he had a better chance of calling 1 play for 3 yards than he would have of calling multiple plays from the 25 in OT.
Kiffin is so overrated and so is Mark Stoops. I really home the big boosters are talking to someone like Chris Klieman
The President needs to have a vision to win lots of football games. If he doesn’t then he’s not qualified
He’s worth a discussion for sure. My only concern would be lack of ties to the conference and SE. important in recruiting, but you definitely talk to the guy.
Dan Lanning would be a monster hire, not happening here though. He was fired up after the game, as he should’ve been, BIG win for Oregon.
Another thing to point out about Napier’s failures is his lack of quality staff. OC/DC’s that go on to be HC. Not a damn coach on his staff is viable for an HC position.
Agreed. Tough situation for a true freshman QB. I just feel that Billy doesn’t have that play. I actually liked that he came out in Emory and Henry. I like that Tennessee was spread out. Give me DJ with Jake blocking and I feel we have a chance to get into the end zone. Is there a chance that the play was actually called by Sale and was overruled by Napier?
This to me is actually his biggest problem. Weird staff with a bunch of co-everythings that has not been effective.
