Based on his prior history Dickey's hire made far more sense and he actually won some big games and made major bowl games before all it took was a .500 record to get one. In the end tho, he failed.

There's bad game management and then there's bad game management. No doubt that was horrible coaching taking the safety in that situation, being up only 3. Classic Billy Napier. However, I would argue there was at least a reason to that madness, whereas there is no plausible explanation for going for it on 4th and 1, at your own 34, up 18 points late in the 3rd quarter and your defense hasn't surrendered a touchdown yet. If the play had failed and UCF scored quickly, we may well have lost the game and this place would have melted down. Of course, he's getting a pass because they converted. But he would not have had a plausible excuse in his back pocket if they had failed like he did with the safety at Louisiana.

You are probably right that he is not sabotaging purposely. He truly is this bad as a coach. After reading that story about the safety at Louisiana, it feels like he wants to be the smartest guy in the room and overthinks things.

 

Probably wears the school colors sometimes at games too.

 

It’s a 12,000 seat stadium. I wonder if they got an exemption for not having the required 15,000 average attendance to be in the FBS.
