What about losing records the past 2 years? Losing to vandy, uk, and the idiotic losses to army/mizzou last year? There is a body of work here over 2.5 years that cannot be glossed over. Did we get better his first 2 years? Has he shown the ability to hire great assistants that out scheme opponents? Do we recruit at the level of our competitors and do we get the most out of those players? Do we beat teams we are more talented than and steal games from more talented teams? Are we disciplined and play with great technique and effort? Objectively most of those answers are no and you can’t blame that on this years schedule.
He was talking about how much he learned over the bye week. He hasn’t learned enough. O points in the second half will lose you some games.
Florida reportedly eyeing two massive Power Four head coaches to replace Billy Napier * ‘massive’ might be a bit of a stretch.
I can agree with all that and still be a fan, enjoying our successes. Change is coming. Piling on Billy won't bring it faster.
I have no clue why you are ranting off what I posted. I said nothing about what you are whining about. Look at my avatar for your answer about what I think of BN. I posted theoretically about what could happen and post facts on where we sit today. Have a nice day
You tell people to "step back from the ledge" and attack a post identifying the two years of dysfunction as a rant? Irony misses you? You assert that UF is a "mid level SEC team" and accuse those questioning that of whining? I could say you are spouting rainbows outta your butt as we are not a mid level sec team, but I will not. You have every right to think we are a mid level sec team. I disagree. We haven't been to date under Napier, but we will find out soon if we are this year. BTW - I agree that Kiffin is the guy if he will come.
We, at this very moment are mid-level in the standings. We are exactly in the middle of the pack. With our only losses to the top team currently in the SEC and to the top team in the ACC. It is not rainbows, that is factual. Are we the worst team in the SEC? Nope we blew out MsST in an away game. I have heard on this board since the first game we were going 0-11, to one win, then 2. I heard MsSt was going to beat us and that UCF is really good and was going to run all over us. So here we are at 3-2 (1-1 SEC) and that is the reality. Now in two weeks this could be very much be different and I suppose it will be. Based off our 2 losses this year and those 3 we have won, there is a slight chance we have improved from year 2 to 3. I believe the next 2 games will be the make it or break it for BN. If we goose egg the next two games it is over, the team will quit. If BN could somehow pull off a turn around, I will root for him to do so. That being said, he was never my pick, and I would choose Kiffin over him everyday of the week.
Who else is out there that’s more accomplished other than maybe Kiffin and that’s kind of debatable also
The reduction of our expectations began before CBN arrived, but regardless of that, you’re right it is sad. Napier has done more to address the problems in our football program than any of the previous three who most recently preceded him. Does he have shortcomings? ooh yes. Is he introspective enough to address that? His outburst at the phantom roughing the kicker call Saturday night and his willingness to cut coaches loose and his own statement that he is pushing buttons to get the ship righted tells me he is not so stubborn that he might be able to get this still young team to play at a much higher level. I, for one, have hurt and been disheartened as much as humanly possible at our decline but, I also see that there might be light at the end of the tunnel.
Did you turn off our last game at half-time, or did you not notice Napier turn turtle and pull his head back in his shell? This coach just does not get it. His timidity gives every opponent we play a better chance to beat us that if someone else was on our sidelines. There is no change in his approach, he just got lucky Sat that he ran into an opponent that was too plodding to be able to mount a comeback. I don't think he is capable of introspection.
We’ve seen this play out many times the last few season, heck even this one. Win a game against a team we should based on talent alone and we are back, progress is being made, the next opponent isn’t that bad and is beatable, then crap the bed. Rinse repeat. Billy Napier is what his record says he is. A bottom tier SEC coach. We should give him another year to see if he can figure out. Maybe some changes to staff again on defense.
Actually I attended the game so the second half was even more frustrating to me. I couldn’t go get a beer, or something stronger, yell at the cat, or walk outside for fresh air. And his tendency to take the foot off the gas and coast when he gets a lead is maddening. I’m hoping he sees how it has to change or it could be his undoing. I can’t really can’t disagree with your post Crusher but, I’m just not quite ready to give up on him. BTW, I’m seeing more coaches go into the “Play not to lose” mode lately. And I think it’s a very bad philosophy but Napier ain’t the only one doing it. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, Heupel went turtle against us in Knoxville two years ago and let us back in the game. I was surprised. I would have never thought he would be one to take the foot off the gas, especially against us, but he did.
The only reason Napier could last another year is because there is an order to things. We need a new President who should hire the new athletic director who should hire the head coach. I wish we could do the first two on an expedited basis.
