Just getting to the playoff seems ok with some in Gatornation. I know it’s been a while and we have gotten destroyed most times when we made it to the sec championship, but just getting beat is not good enough.
Almost every team outside of Georgia and Bama shit the bed from time to time. There will be no coaches to choose from if we disqualify them every time they lay an egg. I didn't watch the game last night but apparently Deboer mismanaged the game pretty poorly starting from the late 1st half according to many here. Does that disqualify him from being a top tier coach?
So, I guess all 3 state schools have had nothing but shitty coaches for the last decade plus. Again, 2005 isn't walking through that door anytime soon. This will take a decade to reverse, if it's even reversible. Sorry, but UF isn't the job it used to be and this idea of being able to dominate with FL recruits is a myth.
I'll throw you a curveball. In order for the FL schools to thrive, all three need to thrive. That creates in-state rivalry and buzz, which is what kept those kids at home back in the heyday. It goes against this common misconception that you need 2-of-3 to suck so the 3rd can dominate and thrive. Yet, what we have seen is the opposite play out every time. Did we capitalize under Urban? Did FSU capitalize under Jimbo? Does anyone actually think "Da U" is "Back"? And, yet, when all three were good (or at least 2-of-3), FL was what the SEC is now (all titles go through the state) and all the kids stayed home. Just an observation. I don't know what we can do to recreate that. Maybe have some kind of conference between the state coaches and agree to NOT negatively recruit against each other and ALWAYS negatively recruit against out-of-state programs? As for IMG. No. 1 reason I hope college's go to a European club/academy system and put their sorry asses out of business.
That man-child Jeremiah Smith wasn't a IMG kid, but your point is valid. A significant portion of those signees don't really have a Florida connection.
Lane always has his eye out for the next POA....I'm sure he's loving all the attention he's getting from UF fans.
[MERGED EDIT: Mark Stoops] . . . What's your view of him as a candidate for uf job? I know the consensus seems to be LK, but if that doesn't happen imho Stoops would not be a bad hire. He is a hard nose coach, has done really well at a place that has usually been a bottom feeder. The guy knows defense, when you hold uga and ole miss to low points that says a lot. I like his emotion not stoic like you know who. We all know you can't win championships without a great D, I think he has shown he can build good D. Just my 2 cents.
I thought he called( maybe his coordinator) called a pretty good game. It’s easy to second guess from the coach but they pretty much dismantled the puppies defense. It’s easy to say he took his foot off the gas too early but going a little conservative with a big lead is understandable, no need to have negative big plays by trying to drop 60 on them.
[MERGED EDIT: Could have had Kalen DeBoer] But Stricklin gonna Stricklin Instead we hire Billy Napier. Washington hires DeBoer instead at the same time. In 2022, Kalen's record was 79-9 as a HC, and at that time, he was HC at Fresno State. He won everywhere he went and we didn't even look at him. Makes no sense.
