He's done very well with receivers. And no doubt he will have no problems finding guys to come catch the ball from Lagway. We have a LOT of young guys. But i don't think that we hired him to be a portal queen like Norvell. We can stand 1 year of portal over HS because of our youth. And clearly it is going to this year where we are now ranked in the 50s. He's just on the razors edge. He needs everything to go right. Probably needs to win at least 1 but it is going to be how we look in the rest that tells the tale. There's no Shame in losing competitive games against top 10 teams. But it's that enough for recruiting to recover? I dunno So, I'm just going to watch and see how things play out.
Dude, he quit on us. He wanted an NFL gig and didn’t get it and the pressure to replace his assistants were the catalysts to him saying the hell with it.
That’s the youngest 63 year old I’ve ever seen. Sign him up! EDIT: And how refreshing is it to hear a coach not just give you coach speak? I actually don’t recall an honest interview like this ever from a coach.
Hes 2-0 vs Napier Has a 10-3 and 13-1 season His FSU record is 32-24, conference record is 20-19 Napier is 15-17 overall and 8-12 in conference and zero winning seasons I am not a fan of Norvell. I don’t think he’s a good coach. But yes he’s been far better than Napier. Even if you argue the difference between the ACC and SEC justifies some of the gap, the fact remains he’s 2-0 vs Billy.
Norvell is 1-1 in bowls You can’t forget Napier got hammered 3-30 in his only bowl at Florida What are we even doing here? FSU has clearly been more successful during these coaches tenures
Folks were talking early last season that the players appeared to be thinking too much and not playing downhill due to scheme. But suddenly an epiphany, just like competition at practice. Smdh
Kind of speaks to our inability to make in game adjustments in my opinion. How many times have we been outcoached in the 3rd quarter of football games? A backup qb comes in with a lot less tape and no game prep against them and they don't miss a beat. Seams consistent.
So almost exactly the same problem with Grantham and his scheme which goes against Napier claiming he studied the past failures of prior coaches and felt confident they won't make the same mistakes. Then it took the players to tell him to simplify things? “The mindset has shifted a little bit, I think,” Napier said. “There is a noticeable difference in the effort, the intensity, and the execution of the football.” Shifted from what? Why wasn't the effort there as you were pumping this team as massively improved from competitive depth? It's just frustrating because his own words are damming. I don't believe he lied or conned anyone the way some here like to claim but it does speak to him just not understanding what quality SEC football was supposed to look like in practice.
1-7 for the first time in fifty years and they havent broken twenty points in a game this year playing a weak schedule. Five years and they are the worst theyve pretty much ever been. Napier has been bad but we are slightly in better shape in year three than they are in year five. Napier will have a winning third year or he wont see a fourth.
Does everyone not understand that FSU is also an ACC team? They get the same payouts and resources as their conference peers. It's akin to judging a AA baseball team for only beating AA opponents, while UF in AAA is getting our ass handed to us by other AAA teams. Oh and the AA squad has handly beaten our AAA squad as of late too. It will never cease to amuse me that Norvell was used as the example as to keep Napier just 1 year ago, now not a single mention of it. Doesn't fit the narrative anymore so just pretend it never existed.
