6-6 third year is not good. It’s quite bad. We keep talking about schedule strength. Our schedule is quite binary UCF, Kentucky, Ms St, and FSU are all near the bottom of their conference. UCF is 14 of 16. FSU is 15 of 17. Kentucky is 14 of 16. Ms St is 16 of 16. Then Samford. We basically have 5 easy wins. 1-6 vs teams with a pulse is not good. A pretty fair measurement would be 3-4 vs good teams. That means the benchmark this year is 8 wins. I’m hoping we get to 9 though. But beating FSU and Ole Miss this year to get to 6 isn’t some successful year
Not sure what others you are referring to, (perhaps other sites that Im not familiar with?) but this forum's vitriol at times rivals THFSG. Comparatively, NBN, Diamond Gators and other forums here are typically much more positive forums even after losses.
I have to agree matty has a bizarre definition of “good teams” our 3 loses came to teams with 2 combined loses ranked (6,7,14) and 3 top 10 teams remaining (2,5,8) is a lot closer to elite teams vs a team outside top 25. Ftr not unusual for this take from him
All true - I guess what I’m saying is that everything you just cited goes to gameday coaching and play-calling. Fix that and we might end up with a damn good team
I will. But if he beats UGA he also should probably win out. But seriously, if he beats 2 of 3 rivals and finishes with a winning record and a Bowl appearance, he may deserve one more year if for no other reason is to minimize risk of losing Lagway.
This is a great post and after reading it I realized CBN played it exactly right- per my calculus of increasing your own chance to score while not raising your opponent's chance to score. And in this case w/ a 14 point lead its the right call. If we were down 14 then no. I remember an opposite scenario back in 03. Playing ut at home w/ the Zooker as coach. We did not burn clock at the end of the half and punted. Tennessee had a little time left and threw a hail mary from the 50. TD Tennessee. It was a gut punch to a reeling team and we lost that day. End of half clock mgmt is a big thing. You have to weigh both your chances and the opponents. It's not like end of game. Billy has failed at this a few times but he did not vs UK. (Which I now realize thanks to apk.) The end of half at the 24 UT game...that's another story...
Guess you’ve never been in a game thread in NBN or Diamond gators when we are losing. Or not winning by enoug.
I thought you were referring to other websites, not other boards within this forum. This site is very tame compared to some others. On this forum, the football board is just where the majority of the traffic is (outside of too hot), so it’s where you’re gonna see the most action, good or bad. Other boards within this forum still have plenty of the same behavior as here, it’s just between 10 people instead of 500.
I wouldn't worry about the recruiting class. It's a different era now with NIL and the transfer portal. Takes money to buy a recruiting class and wasting money on freshmen that may not even play doesn't make financial sense. It sure as heck didn't work for Texas A&M a few years ago when they bought their class. Ohio State paid Quinn Ewers $1M and he bolted for Texas. I think you're going to see more and more schools putting their money into the portal.
I get that. Makes sense. Just don't like seeing high end legacies like brown and Hanks end up at Miami or the other usual suspects.
Yes and miami is pulling a combination of recruiting and portal successes. We really needed them to drop those two games the refs handed them to stem their hype
Kentucky, Ms St, UCF, and FSU are literally at the bottom of their conferences. We should expect to beat the worst teams in confefences
I love the energy of the team and the recent victories. BN deserves credit for what he does well. That Ky game was our first 60 minute game. I STILL want him gone. He is just not a very good coach and UF deserves a great coach. The errors he has made are legion and his feel for the game is just awful.
Yes 6 top 20 teams. I’m not sure of your point though. What should we be in year 3? I’d argue a top 20 team. Is that too much to ask? I also didn’t say we should go 7-0 vs that slate. A top 20 team should go 3-4 or 4-3 vs that slate we play, by definition. Applauding us for going 1-6 would be a joke. Even very mediocre teams should win 1 of 7 vs top 20 teams, that’s how statistics work. How far have we fallen if 1-6 vs top 20 is successful?
Once again you shade reality with extraneous BS to comport with your view. There are 5 teams currently in the top 8 and one at 14 a far cry from teams ranked 15-20. How often should #20 beat #’s 2-8?
