I’m looking forward to seeing Cig play the elite teams. I don’t expect them to win but I wanna see how they play. I hope Napier takes down some teams in the next few weeks though.
Huh? All I'm saying is I think getting all the first team reps helps gameday performance. Didn't think that would be ridiculous position to take, but OK.
I believe our chances of winning 6 is much higher, like over 50pct. We will knock off at least 1 of the 4. I also believe that if that happens, firing Napier isn't going to happen. I think there are too many reasons he doesn't get fired, many of which have to do with the current state of the school presidency and AD, the money involved and the impression it sends to potential coaches. Should he lose the locker room or should the team quit then all bets are off. Honestly, the way this team has been playing is what i was looking for before the season as the metric i would base my opinion on. Now, i know good and well this is fools gold and that the long term issues will persist. But i think all the issues it there keep him here if we are competitive and get a6th win. Flame away.
Just to add the 15% gets smaller with every passing day because we pay him 100% each day. I will say, the team...finally ...looks better and I dont think firing him this week is a good option. If he somehow beats UGA. He is likely probably safe...providing he beats FSU. If he gets boat raced by UGA and we dont pull a couple upsets, he gets sent packing. But economically we save money if it happens now.
It is an insignificant amount of money compared to the overall buyout. Who cares. That's not why you make a decision.
Many posters think their way of being a fan/fandom/supporter of the program is the best way. and they must convince you of such and that your way - no matter how similar or dissimilar or positive or negative it is - just cannot be as good as theirs and thus, some try to convince wirj every post they are the ultimate fan and no one could be a better fan. For reference, I am the best gator fan ever.
**Thread Title Update** A strong showing on both sides fo the ball, gives Billy two more weeks and a UGA win isnt even expected, so it will just be a matter of how they play and does the staff make blunders that cost them. Billy has gone from the fire, to the frying pan which is more than I thought he would.
A fan has to be more positive than negative. It takes maturity and security to support a team year after year through all kinds of weather. Otherwise he is just an insufferable bastard buzzkill.
Pretty much where I expected to be right now - 2-2 in conference play and 4-3 overall. However, I thought we would beat A&M and lose to Kentucky. Does it not bother people that A&M is 4-0 in conference and 6-1 overall -- granted their schedule isn't nearly as difficult as ours, they seem to have it together. I love the appreciation for the gators win over kentucky, the joy of a victory -- but look at the SEC standings, what do you notice. 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league are: Kentucky and Miss State our 2 wins. Yea kentucky had this highly touted defense, but yet they sit 1-4 in conference play and 3-4 overall. Stats don't pay the bills, wins do.
Could DJ have performed at this level if he was the starter since week 1? Maybe… but probably not. Did he benefit by being eased into the game plan while playing behind and learning from Mertz? Absolutely. This is such a stupid argument and just a bad take. It all worked out anyway
The defensive turnaround has been tremendous. I don't know how or why, but it's been great to see these last couple of weeks. I may still have my doubts and low expectations, but this team has absolutely played differently after the bye. If they can keep this up, all bets are off as far as the rest of the schedule is concerned.
If we go hard at the guy we really want and come up empty …I think most would be ok with it. As long as we continue improving. I think settling for the 3rd, 4th or 5th guy on the list, just because “he’s not Napier”, would be a big mistake.
Count me as one who has been impressed with our last few weeks. The fact is that we have played 3 top ranked teams this season- and taken 1 to OT. And beaten a solid UCF (who took a top 10 team to the wire) as well as UK (who beat OM.) I also like how the team is gelling- playing hard with good energy. The stupid D penalties- greatly reduced. The playcalling has been better. Plus- a true freshman QB and RB just rolled over a D who only gave up 17 to Ole Miss, 13 to UGA, and was regarded as quite legit. (The UK O is another matter.) NOW- some very difficult questions remain... Why did we look so so so bad vs Miami and Aggies? A close competitive tough loss or 2 is excusable, but we were completely unprepared for those games? Why does CBN still act completely over his head in so many situations? End of half vs UT is 1 of many examples. So many other questions- I'll stop here, but I could list 10 more deficiencies that are hard to get past. To the future...I'm shaking as I'm typing this but what if we beat either GA or TX. Can you imagine the excitement? Then beat OM at home and the Crims on the road. Not a crazy thought. That's 7-5. Bowl game win is 8-5... So where does that leave us? I think most if not all have mentally fired CBN but it would be tough to fire him after that season. Guys- these are just some thoughts...not arguments.
Okay, since I don't have much to do right now, I will post what I have posted plenty of times. I didn't think the record this year would necessarily decide whether Napier would get his 4th year or not. The schedule was too daunting to demand 6+ wins or else. BUT, we had to "look the part of progress" during the games, even though we may ultimately lose the game. Miami was going to be a win, because Mario was/is a worse program runner than Napier has been. Losing would have been unfortunate but there would be other games to change the dynamics of the season. What happened? Miami was a stinker game. Let's call Cam Ward a reincarnation of FSU's Travis and turns a middling team into something WAY better. That explains the loss but it does NOT explain the view. This is Year 3. Napier can not do that and not suffer the consequences. Tennessee was unfortunate but it also reflected the brain farts that continue. Again, where is the progress? aTm looks like something WAY different than what we expected because they got a new coach. Until further notice, Napier has a reprieve because the team finally looked like progress against a quality (albeit middling) SEC opponent. Keep it up and win one of the Old Miss or LSU games and then FSU and the bowl, THEN we can anoint him a fourth year. Otherwise, I am not sure any more "quality losses" is going to hide the first three losses because they did not represent. It is what it is.
Heck...end of 1st half in the. KENTUCKY game was terrible. 2 minutes to go after the kickoff return and he just ran the clock out. The offense had been rolling and he ran the ball 3 times to run out the half.
I want Billy to succeed. Just think he is a hard working salt of the earth dude. The kids play hard for him. But my concern is that Lagway becomes his Jameis or Travis. Great QBs that hide their coaches weaknesses. It isn't just the wins that I am looking at. If he gets to 7 wins, it won't erase him handing the game to Tennessee or having teams completely unprepared for Miami and aTm. And even in the big win Saturday, there were still multiple bad timeouts and the end of half 2 minute stuff is so frustrating. Lagway may be good enough to hide bad coaching. Ask FSU how that worked for Jimbo and Norvell.
