Serious question: If we somehow pull off an upset vs LSU or Ole Miss...and beat f$u in Tally, does Coach Napier get another year? There's some serious young talent on this team. If the team keeps up the tremendous effort they showed last night and the locker room stays united, how would you feel about keeping Billy at 6-6?
No one doubts the talent.. it’s the coaching. And while the UK game was better there was still some glaringly poor choices made by the coaching staff.
Posted this elsewhere Everybody has been asking for growth and adjustments for decencies yet no one has mentioned our use of the I formation with Pyburn at FB in goal line situations. Result 5 TDs rushing by Baugh. Perhaps 1 very small step in a positive direction There will always be questionable decisions the KO up 21 wasnt great but was it failure by kicker or a decision? The previous KO we had a big hit at the 17. End of 1st half was such that a mistake and uk could get a chance at 2 scores with them receiving the 2nd half KO. Such are vagaries of sport.
One big question i have (which will probably be answered bt the GNFP) is whether our play calling is different for Lagway or does Lagway just look for the deep ball more?
Anyone with a hint of football knowledge recognizes that Mertz should have been starting. There are certainly things to criticize Napier about...his handling of the QB's isn't one of them
Even if Napier gets to 6 wins (which I very much doubt will happen) our 2025 class is currently 39th nationally and 15th in the SEC. Maybe we get a slight bump but it would still not be even close to good enough. If we are in the bottom half of the SEC by the end of the season Billy should be fired for that reason alone.
Oooof. I didn't realize our recruiting had tanked that badly. He has to go just based on that alone. Can't compete in this conference with classes like that.
So first game Lagway starts and plays the entire game, we score the most points we have all season. More points than we scored against Samford. Just a coincidence, right? Anyone with a hint of football knowledge understands a guy with Lagway's talent will overcome his mistakes with his talent and thus his overall play would have outperformed Mertz in the first 6 games. And what results do we have to show for starting Mertz over Lagway? A win over UCF? You don't think Lagway couldn't have won a game like that where our defense held UCF to 13 points? Lagway easily beats Miss State and Samford. What did we gain by playing Mertz over Lagway? Tell me, since you have so much football knowledge. If Lagway was good enough to get a dozen snaps in those games, he was good enough to start. And if Lagway had played the entire games against Miami, TAMU and UT, there's a decent chance he would have stolen one of those games and we'd be 4-2. But I'll let you explain what we gained by starting Graham Mertz over the Gatorade High School Player of the Year DJ Lagway. Please...
It’s all about trade offs. My fear is he gets to 6-6 and people justify keeping him. Given our schedule that’s a pretty weak year. That’s 1-6 vs ranked opponents. 3 of those wins would be Samford, worst team in SEC and worst team in ACC. But if you fire him now he has no chance to get to say 8 wins, which at that points he’s 3-4 vs ranked opponents. That’s progress. Not good but worth another year. If someone could guarantee he’s fired unless he wins 8 then let’s keep him. But we already see people talking themselves into keeping him at 6 wins
Ooof. Not getting that recruiting is on standstill until his future is determined. IF they put things together and save his job the recruiting class will be fine.....if he is out you start over. But where the class is "ranked" right now is an irrelevant snapshot
Thanks 1-6 vs ranked teams. A mediocre team is going to occasionally upset a team. We’d have beaten Samford, worst team in SEC and the worst in ACC. Napier needs 8. 6 is still a weak year
It’s apparent that firing Billy is far more important to you than seeing our team improve and win games. You would rather see us lose than win and give Billy a chance to succeed in his 3rd season. That’s basically what your post says
When your recruiting class is predicated on "ifs", that's not good, no matter how you spin it. Napier's future is only in doubt because he has failed to win. It is nobody else's fault but Napier's. And you think in a hypothetical, if he wins 7 or 8 games, saves his job, that our recruiting class will shoot into the Top 10? And I'm the one without a hint of football knowledge? Give us all a break. You don't have a clue what you're talking about.
