Cig's team is certainly is looking good today. 35-7 over Nebraska. Matt Rhule not so much. At least with Cig we wouldn't have to listen to all the Kiffin haters every day and Gator fans would probably be more unified (I think).
I'm not a fan of Kiffin, especially after the fake injury situation has been exposed lately. But I understand why people like him (wears a visor, good offensive mind). Imo, though, he's overhyped. He's yet to win big at any program facing stiff competition. Even OM fans are disappointed with him currently, after the off season expectations. Of course they could win out - who knows. Great offensive mind. Not convinced he's long term HC potential. Cignetti has proven he already is.
This is easily the best game IU has played all year and it's against the best competition they've played. Imagine that.
I’m listening - just disagreeing. As I understand you, you’d rather fire Billy right now and bring in another mediocre coach who will ultimately be fired in another 3 years, than wait till the end of this season when we will have more options to take action. To me this is foolish. So we can just leave it at that
Yea Kiffin's team has underachieved so far this year, so I get it but using the usual Kiffin criticism, what D1 championships/big games has Cignetti won? His schedule gets a bit tougher from here, so he has a shot. He's certainly kicking ass today. 42-7 now.
My assumption is the admin will not just hire a vagrant off the street and try their best to hire a highly qualified canidated. Why are you so negative or assume the worst in everything I say?
Haha. Those guys would definitely help. But until this UT game the d has been very rough too. Very few position coaches or coordinators have produced as expected. Maybe Juluke? Our rbs have been consistently good.
They can work both ways just depending on who’s on each end. There’s no set of rules that governs success.
I don’t think you understand business or football. You keep a bad coach you are virtually guaranteed of weakening football, poor attendance and declining donors. The odds of a turnaround are so slim it’s not worth mentioned A new hire is not guaranteed success. In fact they likely will NOT be successful. But they have much, much higher likelihood of success than a bad coach remaining after 3 years. Then things like revenue will increase as fans will stick around and donors will be excited. Recruiting will also be better. We are seeing it now with Billy, dead coaches can’t recruit What exactly is your argument that keeping a bad coach is better than trying someone new? Show how it’s a positive EV. I think you are making the mistake where you think we want to fire all coaches after 3 years. We do not. We want to find a good coach and keep him for a decade. We can just clearly see the odds of hiring a coach that is good is infinitely higher than hoping a failed coach turns it around
This isn’t personal Walrus — I simply think our options firing Billy mid-season are exceedingly few, and rolling the dice with such bad odds is foolish and desperate. The best candidates out there - Cignetti, Klieman, Chadwell, even kiffy - won’t be available until after this season plays out. So I think that letting this already-lost season play out gives us a better chance of landing a good coach in the next hire. Plus, it gives Billy a chance to make a respectable season out of this and keep his job. Don’t take it personally - we simply disagree on this
He seriously thinks we want to hire the worst possible candidate (excluding our current coach). It makes no sense. We obviously want to hire the coach with the greatest probability of success
I don’t mean to be rude, but do you know how coaching searches work? Absolutely nobody is saying to fire and hire a guy that will start mid season. It’s obviously an interim for the rest of the year. You fire now so you can start back channel convos, to boost program morale, and eliminate the off chance Napier goes 6-6 and people get confused. I also think we have a better chance in our future games under an interim than under Napier. What’s the downside?
