A lateral move would be an equal prospect

4 years of a bad coach would be the same as 4 more years of Napier

I get the point if we keep Napier we can fire him next year while a new guy is locked in for a few. But hiring a good coach is never easy and not a high probability for success. Thats going to be true every year

1 of our 2 best presidents since I was at UF in the early 80's was not a career educator (although he was an alumnus so probably understood UF and FL politics as well as anyone). Believe it or not, sometimes highly credentialed candidates from other fields can be effective in that role. Personally, I would rather hire an achiever in any field as long as that someone was an alumnus of UF in their past, rather than the parade of eggheads with no connection to UF that we've hired in that role since Lombardi was sacked.

Lmao. He's not highly credentialed. He ran a 1500 student school in Nebraska. Just because he was asst secy of HHS and was a senator doesn't make him qualified.

I didn't say anything about wanting an egg head. I wanted someone with the experience necessary to elevate UF further. I wanted an open search of the best candidates in the US.

Instead we got a shotgun appointment orchestrated by certain interests. One where an open search and multiple candidates was replaced with a single candidate reeking of political favoritism. It's just like the parks project that got torpedoed.

And this all happened under the watch of the BOT. And it stank to high heaven when it happened.

The proof of his lack of qualifications was in the pudding. An embarassment to the University of Florida. Dollars to donuts he was forced out.

More importantly, the process was subverted and was a joke.

I know a guy who lives in the same city as Desantis. Pretty sure that means we’re getting tickets to Disney World.

    Listen to you...

Like 2 mil/ year is chump change...and like coaching @#$%&n football is rocket science...

Like so many others, you've lost a great deal of perspective.

Note--Steve Spurrier *earned* his way up to 2 Million per year --and by earn, I mean he put in the time, sweat, tears and effort, to add value to thr school's name, via sweat equity, to warrant that kind of pay.

Yall want to quadruple down on stupid, and pay another *name* 6x that per year, and double/triple that with sides... and leave us susceptible to getting played for chumps yet again.

    MO MONEY!!! THATS THE TICKET!!!

There’s no winning team with a 2mil coach. 7 is getting to be the starting salary for a power two job at a decent school. It might be stupid but that’s the reality.

2 counter points--that is vestigial leftovers of a passing era...

....and 2, in the new NIL era, whatever millions of dollars anyone would have go to getting and/or making a phat coach phatter, could and ought to go to actual players via NIL.

    This. Ain't. Rocket science.

It's just new (and therefore calls for innovation--or at least, fresh thinking).

We resist acknowledging this tectonic change of terrain at our own peril, and no school is better positioned to blow the old paradigm to hell, and do something bold and new.

(...or we can continue with old and stupid, and hope agsinst Einsteinian wisdom, to expect different results).

You are correct. It isn't rocket science. It is an incredibly hard and demanding job. It demands your life. And even then then only an elite few can do it.

You simply want to ignore reality because you don't value the job.

Honestly, you are the one without perspective.

Being the head coach at a major school isn't rocket science (such a trite meaningless expression). It is one hell of a difficult job. That demands the skill of running an organization as well as implementing a program at the highest level. It is a job the requires incredible devotion and committing your life to it.

You are like the old lady down the street who thinks paying 15 bucks to mow the lawn is what it's worth when the going rate is 90 bucks. By that i mean you are looking at it solely from one side.

Being the head coach at Florida requires at least a base amount expertise. Every head coach we hire, we are hoping that they can take the next step and that's part of why they are getting paid so much. There aren't NC winning coaches available. They have to be grown.

So you want to pay some guy far less to take the job essentially on the come. Well, guess what, that's going to mean that coach is even farther down the base expertise line ... Because if he wasn't, he would command more elsewhere.

That's what you miss. The market sets the salaries. Those people you want to pay less, aren't going to take the job. They'll go elsewhere. And if they do take the job they are a much bigger risk of being unsuccessful or taking even longer to be successful.

In the end, you pay the person you think stands the best chance that you can find. And you pay them the market rate. Because what you rush losing is a whole lot more valuable. And when you find you've made a mistake, you pay them their money and move on. The cost of being wrong is expensive. The cost of not properly investing in your program is devastating... As we've seen. These are 100m revenue companies not nickel and dime football programs.

Using a coach making 2 M 20 years ago is meaningless as a comparison.

I know you fancy yourself some avant garde thinker. But you aren't.

You've let your personal biases trump your reading comprehension. Go back and re-read my post and tell me where it supports the the hiring of Sasse in any way, shape, or form.
