95, I think we are missing the mark here. My comparison is in how RIVALS view the two. They hate both for being brash, cocky, snarky and good. And Yes, SOS is on record having Danny fake an injury. I think the issue is that because it is Kiffin we tend to react towards it being unsportsmanlike. Danny nailed it. Football is all about tricking the opponent and I am fine with doing whatever the refs allow you to do (outside of physically hurting someone) to win.

I can't draw a wide line of demarcation between Danny faking an injury and Ole Miss doing it.

But irt the comparison, I am purely talking about how we have been most successful with guys that rivals hate.

Pell did indeed put us on the map. It's hard for me to talk about him. He got the shaft from the NCAA and SEC and never recovered. Seemingly never forgave himself, but he was only doing what every other program was doing. And the SEC vacating the '84 title added more insult to injury. Pell was blackballed and had a really rough time afterwards. My heart will forever go out to him and his family. RIP Charlie Pell.

Yep. He actually won two SEC Championships at Tennessee. His won loss record was good.
But……..Watching his offense after Ray Graves teams was worse than watching Muschamp’s. BTW, Dickey was 2-3 in bowl games at UT, 0-4 at UF: not exactly stellar. And that was back when bowl games meant something.

Jedd Fisch got a big win against Michigan. Rest of the schedule looks manageable, I will be paying attention to him and Washington.

Losing to WASU and Rutgers isn't exactly great though. It is his first year in Washington though so my intrigue is high on how he does with the rest of his schedule.

If all Florida fans can just admit that every coach is going to be compared to Spurrier, then perhaps our coaching searches will consolidate to those fitting that desire. Mullen at the very least fit one aspect as he was the best gameday coach and playcaller since Spurrier.

What was the former Vikings HC used to say, he is not what we thought he was going to be, or something similar to that.

Dennis Green. They are who we thought they were! As a former Bears fan I remember it well.

Bama said that about the Bear until Saban came along. Coaches who win championships write history.

I'm sure, the new stadium will be 35k, down from 47k, SS would be proud.

This response isn't to argue your view of CBN but to add some perspective to your post....... the talent level of our other conference members are leaps and bounds better than what they were back then. As we just seen this past weekend, our perennial "bottom dweller" teams are knocking off the conference and nations best teams. So much more parity across the land.

Do not want James Franklin. That dude is slime. Everywhere he goes, every interview he gives, every sideline shot of him screams.. I am slimy.

Meh, our two possible options that could improve things are pricks. We see what nice guy gets us. I'll take the prick.

Coaches haven’t allowed access to the program for a long time and all we get is coach speak. Gotta coach better, play better yada yada. Who cares if the coach is a tool? He isn’t gonna be your buddy, so I’ll take the Ws now.

I didn’t call him a tool or a prick. He is slimy. He makes every program he is at look worse than they should. Underhanded. Cheating, lying slimeball. Kiffin is a prick. Arrogant mouthy prick. But not slimy.

I also never said I want a nice guy.
Give me Gruden. Give me Kiffin. Give me arrogant balls to the walls offensive mastermind who runs the score up every chance he gets. But don’t give me the guy that makes me want to shower in bleach every time he speaks or shakes my hand. (That’s FrNklin for me..)

The coaches still active I consider genuinely slimy are Art Briles, Bobby Petrino, Hugh Freeze and, not coaching but could still show up somewhere in near future, Jimbo Fisher.
Guys like Kiffin and Franklin don’t cross the line of lewd behavior IMO but, both can be annoying. Kiffin “trolling the bars” for young coeds is tabloid fodder. There are still enough citizens in Mississippi that would not allow that even though he is very successful there.
I think Kiffin is a better person than he was before being fired on the tarmac by Southern Cal and working under Saban. Both humbling experiences. Just my opinion.
But I’m not abandoning my hope for Napier yet.
