Bud Grant, the legendary HC of the Minnesota Vikings died today at 95. The Vikings were my team growing up, still can’t believe they didn’t win one of those Super Bowls. Bud Grant was a well respected HOF football coach and an even better man. May he R.I.P. Long live the Purple People Eaters!

That's a big loss for folks up here in the norseland. Grant has been intimately associated w the Vikings throughout the decades, including recent years. He's a folk hero up here; a true tough guy with a big heart. RIP coach Grant

I remember him coaching the Blue Bombers when I was a kid, I think my father became a Vikings fan when he moved from the CFL to coach them, he certainly was a coach used to some cold weather!

One of the best people ever in the NFL.
He was Minnesota and Minnesota was him.
"The steward of the team known for The Purple People Eaters, Grant coached a number of future Hall of Famers including Fran Tarkenton, Paul Krause, Alan Page, Carl Eller, Mick Tingelhoff, and Ron Yary."
    AMAZING.

I remember seeing him being interviewed after he retired saying part of his exercise routine was shoveling snow and that he enjoyed it.

He was one of, if not THE, reason why the Vikings delayed building an indoor stadium. He thought they had a decided advantage playing in DAMN COLD weather. And IIRC, he was always wearing a light jacket in that weather. They don't make them like that anymore.

RIP, and thanks for the memories.

I think he also played pro basketball—either the NBA or one of the precursors

To be honest, I thought he had already passed away. Did not realize he was still alive. Great coach. 4 Super Bowls but never won. Was Marv Levy before Marv with Bills.

Weird, I was wondering last week if he was still alive. Sorry that he's gone. NFL was so much better back in the days when coaches like him, Stram, Lombardi, Shula, Landry, etc were in the coaching profession. Hard to believe they all coached in the same era.

Heard a story years ago that someone was put in charge of putting together a high school reunion. She located all most all of the alumni but was having no luck tracking down Harry Grant, Jr.
She turned to another former student for help and he said "nobody calls him Harry anymore, everybody calls him Bud". Not being a football fan she asked if he had any idea where she might find him. He said "try contacting the Minnesota Vikings, he's their head coach".
