Bubble Watch: Bid stealer tournaments start this week, here is what to watch

I don’t know exactly how this system works, but I am assuming there is a difference between beating Purdue or Illinois at home or Wisconsin on the road vs beating Vanderbilt on the road. Maybe, I am wrong.

Michigan is very overrated and has underachieved greatly. Cannot see them making it in over us.

 

Yeah, I was going to mention this. Don't know the list, but I recall them playing very tough against some really good teams. Another thing to @jareduf, who referenced Maryland (in a good post, I might add). I agreed earlier on that they were a bad loss, but otoh they beat OSU by 15 on Saturday and it was never close.

 

15-12 record and they could get in?

 

Committee also looks at how you finish.

 

I agree, but let's see how they do against MI st tonight. A win would make MI 10-8 in the Big10. With that and 18 wins, I bet they would get in. They end against IA and @ OSU, which will be tough, but win one of those and grab a win in the conf tourney and they would have 18.

 

Al the bubble teams around us won tonight.

 

Yup. I think if we win Saturday, we're in no matter what. Win Saturday and pick up a win or two in the tourney, we're golden. I'd even argue dangerous.

Was not good day to beat Auburn

 

Some huge bubble games on Wednesday.

Xavier (Net 35) at St. John's. Xavier is 5-8 vs Quad 1, but have lost 6 of their last 7 games including 4 in a row. They are now 7-10 in conference and a 2nd loss to St. John's making them 7-11 in conference, 5 consecutive L's and 7 of their last 8 certainly can't look good to the committe, so need them to lose.

Rutgers (Net 82) at Indiana (Net 43). Talked about Rutgers a bunch of times already but this is a monster game for both teams and they each desperately need the W. I kind of feel that a loss for Rutgers could end their hopes despite 5 wins vs ranked teams. A loss would be Rutgers 4th in a row and make them 3-10 on the road, while a win would give them a 6th Quad 1 W. At the same time, a loss could equally hurt Indiana so may be a wash either way.

UCONN (ranked 18th in country) at Creighton (Net 67). Creighton's hopes are hanging by a thread. A loss and they're done so need UCONN to win, but a win definitely keeps Creighton in the mix.

Auburn (ranked 5th in country) at Miss St. (Net 53). Need MSU out of the picture so need Auburn to win.

Miami (Net 62) at Boston College. BC is not very good so not counting on the upset but a loss could really hurt Miami's chances.

 

Yesterday morning Lunardi had 9 Big10 teams in The Dance and only 6 Big12 and 6 SEC teams. Pomeroy conference ratings are (1) Big12, (2) SEC, (3) Big10. Maybe Lunardi has a Big10 bias this year?

BTW Jerry Palm, who traditionally dislikes the Gators, have us in as a 12 seed playing UNC in the play in round. That would be interesting given the "secret" scrimmage preseason.

 

Thanks for adding that. Stinks Vandy fell but hopefully a win at Miss on Sat will get them back to a Quad 1 victory.

 

They lost to Auburn, and we beat Auburn. Transitive properly does not apply in saying that we should beat UK or that we are equivalent to UK. We are not as good, obviously, but to state outright we aren’t good enough to beat UK at home is an exaggeration. Are we likely to beat them? No. Are we good enough to beat them? Yes.

 

I hope I'm wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it.
