Nope. If the penalty occurs in the second half of a game, the player is disqualified for the remainder of that game and the first half of next game.

I thought the officiating was generally bad and biased. But that was targeting.

in case you needed proof. He lowers his head and makes contact with the helmet of the Vandy player.

Not the worst targeting that we all have seen but fits with in the current rules.

They need to create levels of targeting. accidental or egregious. The later being ejection the former a 15 yd/1st down.

What made it more obvious (or made it worse, depending on POV) was Miller flexing and jawing in front of the officials and the Vandy bench after the hit. If he walks back to the defensive huddle without showboating, there may not have been a penalty.

Really had no choice because you couldn't trust that they were going to review it.

Worst rule in sports. "Lowers his head" because his head is connected to the rest of his body and in order to lower his shoulder he must necessarily lower his head. The refs can't even make the call in real time but the player is supposed to magically adjust. Just trash all around and the fact that it carries an ejection makes it all the more absurd.

Targeting is such a buulsheet arbitrary penalty. Just add it to the list of why college football will continue on it's downward spiral.

Difficult as you see the runner lowers his head prior to the collision as well. It is not as if the runner continues to run with his head upright. Looks like more shoulder contact on back of head area. Not a direct on helmet hit.

Forget where he hits. This is where ppl are getting their panties in a wad.

    • Launch — a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
    • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
    • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
    • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
    There is one more condition:

Players are also prohibited from targeting and making forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless player with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. The rulebook says: “When in question, a player is defenseless.” And in this case, there needs to be at least one indicator of targeting.

Here are some of the rulebook’s examples of a defenseless player:
    • A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.
    • A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
    • A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return.
    • A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
    • A player on the ground.
    • A player obviously out of the play.
    • A player who receives a blind-side block.
    • A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped.
    • A quarterback any time after a change of possession A ball carrier who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feet-first.
The condition I bolded is what they got him on.

They would have to win the appeal. No chance of staying with FSU without him.

They won't, video clearly shows contact to the head.

We see helmets contact each other during tackles on many plays, particularly running plays or during runs after a catch. By the standard Miller was ejected for, they could have reviewed and ejected half of both defenses.

Running backs and receivers, who have secured their catch and are running, are not defenseless players. They are frequently leaning/leading with their helmets. Tacklers are leaning as well. Helmet to helmet contact is frequently unavoidable, and may even be the first things to make contact.

The primary contact that put the RB on the ground was Millers arms extending into the RB's chest, nearly simultaneous to the glancing helmet to helmet contact. He wasn't aiming with his helmet, or aiming for the RBs helmet.

"Targeting " an opponents head with your helmet, needs to be the rule. Its like Porn. You know it, when you see it. That was not it... but that is not the rule and Miller will probably have to sit for it.

This is one of the least egregious “targetings” I’ve ever seen. He clearly lowered his head a tad but the crown never made forceable contact. He was aiming for the shoulder as you can see him turning his own shoulders but the TE is also lowering his body and head contributing to the resulting hit. I’m baffled that the officials never take into consideration the acts of the offensive player that could alter what the hit looks like. I felt like this should have been a situation where similar to a fumble there wasn’t enough video evidence so the call should stand as called on the field. I’m a level headed person when it comes to calls regardless if it goes against my team if evidence clearly supports it but that was not the case in this situation and I absolutely lost my s#!t. I’m not sure what the worst part of this game was…AR’s inability to read when to pull the ball, defensive scheme on short yardage situations, Trey Dean being Trey Dean, the energy of the players, the jokers in the booth or the referees.
