I think you are incorrect. Lane wants to win a title - Ole Miss has never won a national title, and they simply do not have the recruiting base, location, history to do it. SOS is a GREAT coach and look at him at USCe. Ole Miss is not taking down Okla, Bama, UGA, Texas etc. Kiffin knows he could do that at UF. If you think being a god at ole miss meets Lane’s ego needs, I think you underestimate his ego. As to our “decision makers” (meaning a limited set of old guard gators - not the big money guys) - a lot of the old guard did not want SOS: “his offense will never work in the SEC.” They loved Muschamp and Napier b/c they fit the mold of “from the south” tough guys. If you want someone to lead a Boy Scout troop, hire Napier. If you want a friend, get a dog. If you want a coach, hire a guy that can coach. His past is no worse than many current public figures, and I do not see anything disqualifying (troubling? Yes - running out on UT, but not disqualifying).
Wingtee...seriously the guy is too busy trying to pry his junk out of the door right now...pain/pleasure...odd relationship for some.
20/20 hindsight makes a genius out of all of us. Imagine the cashish that would have been available had we chosen more wisely over the last 15 years. sigh.....
hey I don’t want to toot my own horn - but I already went there (page 1 of thread). Told my friends I’m getting a “Freshwater” UF jersey if we hire him too. we have to laugh in times like these.
He can if our boosters are going to buy the very best players, but fringe top 10 classes are not going to get it done. I firmly believe that comes down to cash for the roster. Maybe they are content with just making the playoffs because that what our classes look like.
That’s not bad cons he is at ol miss and playing against better talent. Get him 3-4 top 5 classes and then take a look at what he can do.
Also, I think there is a bit of a misconception (not meaning you) regarding Kiffin's offense. It's not a Mike Leach type passing every down type offense. He actually runs a balanced offense often with more running plays than passing plays typically with a QB that isn't afraid to run it. He had a 1000 yard rusher the last 2 years in Judkin. Still not sure how good of a HS recruiter he is, but he is killing it in the portal every year and has had a deep QB bench. All that said, I will still be surprised (pleasantly so) if he is the next Gator coach.
