Bridges was ranked as the No. 109 overall prospect in the portal and No. 9 cornerback at the time of his commitment. He joins San Diego State offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson and former Penn defensive lineman Joey Slackman as members of Florida's transfer portal class. In the first year of Dan Lanning's tenure at Oregon, Bridges lined up at the opposite cornerback position of first-round pick Christian Gonzalez. Bridges started all 13 games, made a career-high 49 tackles, added five pass breakups, three interceptions, a forced fumble, and one tackle for loss. Bridges played over 700 snaps in 2022, third-highest on the teams defense a season ago. As 2023 rolled around, Bridges quickly saw his role diminish from the jump. Sophomore Jahlil Florence and transfer Khyree Jackson opened the season as the starting cornerbacks and, outside of injury, haven't looked back. Bridges finished the 2023 season with 205 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus, 16 tackles, 0.5 TFL, and three PBU's. Bridges saw time in every game of the 2023 regular season. His best performance came against Washington on October 14th, recording four tackles, 0.5 TFL, and one PBU.
All thigs being equal (and of course, they never really are), I'll take a 198-pound safety over a 175-pound one.
I think it's a bit of an oversimplification to say "similar circumstances = RJ Moten." That said, it's a fair question. I'd like to think we've taken that into account in our evaluation of this guy and Harris can coach him up to at least be solid.
Coaches must like something about him. It doesn't seem like we're taking many "reaches" at this point. No reason to.
There's talk about him being the 6th best player in the Oregon secondary. I'd like to remind everyone that Oregon went 11-2, is ranked #8 in the country, and had the #11 scoring defense and #22 total defense (yards per game).
We will see what Washington can do. I don’t have a lot of confidence in the tree, hugging hippies, even though I am one. I don’t hug trees by the way
I’d say in a competition to start. We have some young guys that will either earn snaps this year or move on next year.
