Could it be that the player who was dismissed was part of the losing culture and not willing to change?

There's been a lot of discussion in a few threads of the amount of attrition that will
be seen after this season. Logically, he couldn't completely clean house before year 1 and I'm sure that he wanted to see if some of these guys could be turned around too.

I think we all agree that this program was in bad shape last year and it was only going to get worse if we had kept the last guy.

Maybe over time that is correct, but I don't think the D could possibly be any worse than it is now and perhaps Mullen's offensive genius could have eked out another win or two by this juncture. Also Mullen wasn't allowed time for his annual game of Portal Kombat....who knows he might have found the next Jonathon Greenard.

If so, grounds for dismissal was obviously warranted.

I’m guessing other remedies were tried and failed thus the word “cumulative “.

At the ball? Duh? Players get punched all the time from players trying to hit the ball out. Happens literally every game

Except the most obvious one: sitting his posterior on the bench.

He's has all the talent in the world but cannot get out of his own way. A player like that is no good for a coach trying to build a culture, which is why, despite Cox's near limitless potential, two different coaches have told him to get the hell out of their locker room.

This is addition by subtraction in the long run for Florida.

Probably true.if the punch was an issue it
Yeah you hope a fresh start can turn a guy around. Another Mullen reach and fail.

Off topic, but in this age of nil money... what happens? He still getting paid? Or terms of the contract?

I wonder if it gives the coach a lot more power.

I was a Dan Mullen fan. I didn't have time to follow recruiting though. Looking back, his neglect in that area has put us in the position we are now.

Brilliant offensive mind, but not cut out to run this program.

Kirby and Billy seem to have similar expectations for their teams effort and attitude. This move doesn't surprise me, especially taking your observations into account.

Not gonna speculate on this particular player but generally speaking if accountability is slipping during the transition as success ebbs and flows, players start to stretch or test boundaries parting ways with a “big dog” who becomes high maintenance (constant little transgressions) gathers the herd much faster than parting ways with less talented players.
