We let them have their military dictatorship when they were aiding us in Vietnam. This guy could probably get away with more by doing even less.

Lol... so, who is committing the insurrection here? The few cops that thought they had the right to arrest? Or... the duly elected man in office? Is declaring Martial Law illegal for him? Which laws did he break in the first place?

The SK President was impeached and is “suspended” from office. I guess technically he is not yet fully removed from office (just suspended) which is why he still has a Presidential security detail.

Whatever differences their laws are from U.S. law, I’m assuming just hiding out to avoid a warrant isn’t a legit legal maneuver.

or, if he's lucky, he can fast track to death row and get pardoned

Obviously for his little “martial law” stunt. No idea on SK law (and neither do you), but obviously this guy was a weak President and his actions just seem like a weak politician flailing. Maybe since he complied and ended the martial law after their congress overrode it the criminal charges are a bridge too far, but as I said neither of us would know what SK law actually says on the matter so it’s silly to opine on whether charges are “valid” or not. But I’d just say based on our standards here I like that SK is going after their wannabe dictator. I’d say the same for any other “leader” who goes down that path of lawlessness and deceit (Bolsonaro of Brazil is another).

Interesting that his supporters have adopted some of the “stop the steal” stuff.

No one on death row was pardoned, please try to get your facts straight.

I guess your nonsense has a short attention span, so recycling 6 year old stories into “conspiracy theories” works on you. But this weirdness with Sinclair broadcasting happened 6 years ago. I actually remember the discussions from when this happened. Educate yourself. Or don’t. Either way, off topic from South Korea’s President…

I'm sure the cops didn't just decide one morning to go drum up some charges and arrest the president. Every democracy has (or should have) a procedure for removing a president from office. Alexander Hamilton figured that out over 230 years ago. Usually the legislature has powers to authorize and conduct an investigation, and conclude that an arrest is justified.

An impeachment may or may not have been an over-reaction on the part of the legislature, but that is their right and responsibility to do so.

Yoon has already been impeached. Although technically he is “suspended” while that plays out. I don’t think there was any other outcome after that crazy martial law fiasco which brought international condemnation.

South Korea has been down this path before. They impeached a corrupt President just 6 years ago and sentenced her to a lengthy prison sentence (I believe she was let out due to COVID and ultimately had her term commuted).

Apparantly they have already impeached this guy’s temporary/acting successor within 2 weeks! So they are on their second “acting President” after impeaching Yoon. I guess they have itchy trigger fingers over there.
