I don’t remember him saying that after the Trump shooter missed.

You have a penchant for missing the point: Excising a portion of his quote to make it seem like no-hum we should just learn to live with it. Actual quote: “I don’t like this. I don’t like to admit this. I don’t like that this is a fact of life. But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realise that our schools are soft targets.”

JD Vance is the new idiot on the block. Open mouth and out spews reality but in a brutish and boorish Trumpian manner. Empathy points? Zero. The dude can’t read an audience.

Sadly it’s a fact of life. Despising Vance won’t make it any different. Burying your head in the sand that it’s a fact of life, won’t change it either. The gun toothpaste is out of the tube as others have said. It’s not going away. How we better control the gun violence issue covers a multitude of issues that need attention now. Some issues will be easier to implement and monitor and some won’t. We will probably not be around to see the success or failure of those actions. Be can hope for the best. I hate to see Americans not figure this out.

He's not wrong, but it is too accepting, too flippant a way to put it.

I think he is wrong. He is saying that gun laws cannot change to keep down violence, but every school and, presumably, other potential targets, need to be turned into fortresses. That, in my opinion, is bullshit. Is it an enormous challenge to change gun laws? Sure it is. Do we give up because of that? Do we give up because of NRA lobbying and supporting of elected officials? The answer should be no.

I strongly believe we should have regulations on volcanoes due to their effects on climate change. And I’m not being flippant.

I never figured out who Swampie is. I do remember the Columbine shootings triggering in him a vicious rant, against home schooling, for some bizarre reason.

The more I read of this family’s story it really is just sad.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2024/09/07/georgia-school-shooter-mother-warning/

Mom of alleged Georgia school shooter Colt Gray once threatened to kill husband

The father was a victim of severe physical abuse. He apparently was abusive to wife, but wife also has long Rap sheet, including possession of meth and fentanyl, and charged with family violence due to making threats to her husband.

Everything I have seen involving meth is it is a disaster. Two of my daughters (former) friends involved with meth - one is charged with murder for killing his girlfriends dad (that literally could have been me) and the other has been jailed a couple of times due to possession and crimes related to his addiction including breaking and entering.

I don’t know how you stop it but just casually ignoring it impacts a lot of people, not just the addict.

At a minimum guns should not be allowed at all in a home of someone with a criminal record or drug convictions.

Yeah, the Jacksonville paper did a big project a few years ago about teens who commit murder. The startling conclusion was that they grew up in really crappy families, if they had families at all.

This is a hot take, so be gentle on the HBC.

"Why don't they just put that sign up there? That's the only thing they're used for. You don't need them for self defense and yet we sit here and say 'blah, blah, blah.'"

"We are messed up in America to allow sick people to have these guns, and it ain't going to stop until they get all of these guns out of the way. You can carry a six-shooter, protect yourself, which we are all for. But these AR-15s are for mass shootings in the schools and we sit here and allow it to happen in America. Makes me sick."

Steve Spurrier delivers passionate message on gun control: "We're messed up in America"

    Inb4: “Shut up and coach”.

The old ball coach is spot on of course. Never should have happened. Similar to the opioid crisis, evil forces made billions of dollars on death and destruction and Steve is right to call these perpetrators out.

Trion City Schools say additional officers were on campus on Wednesday morning because of a school threat made the night before.

A Trion Middle School student made a threat towards the school on Tuesday and was detained that night.

On Wednesday about 9:00am, law enforcement and school officials were told that a student at Trion High School may have a gun. Trion City Schools were placed on a "hard lock down" while officials investigated the photo being shared and checked all lockers, vehicles, and book bags. No weapon was found.

During the lock down, law enforcement officials were securing each hallway in all schools. An officer in the hallway of the Elementary School accidentally discharged his weapon, shooting himself in the foot.

UPDATE: Trion City Schools closed Thursday after officer shoots himself in foot
