Bowman Falls to Latimer in a Loss for Progressive Democrats Bowman is a squad far left guy, and is losing pretty badly, in NY. To me this is more evidence that Democratic voters are not as far left as they are accused of. This is yet another example of moderates defeating the fringe. Compare that to the Republican Party who is fully captured by MAGA.
Jamal Bowman loses in the primary. Democrats holding their own accountable. Wouldn't it be great if the pubs did the same Jamaal Bowman defeated: First "Squad" member to get ousted from Congress Jamaal Bowman Defeated: First 'Squad' Member to Get Ousted From Congress Published Jun 25, 2024 at 10:12 PM EDTUpdated Jun 25, 2024 at 11:07 PM EDT Representative Jamaal Bowman has become the first member of House progressive Democrats' "Squad" to lose his seat. Bowman lost the Democratic primary for New York's 16th Congressional District on Tuesday night to George Latimer, a former state lawmaker now serving as Westchester County's executive.
Meh. They could have replaced Bowman with a good pick. Instead, they replaced him with a guy who sucks. Yeah, that guy won't make waves, but it's still underwhelming for a party that needs to develop a stronger bench.
is there hope for the remnants of the pub party Donald Trump Suffers Triple Primary Blow (msn.com) Atrio of Donald Trump endorsed Republicans suffered primary defeats on Tuesday to GOP rivals in a blow to the former president's authority. In South Carolina Trump endorsed candidate Mark Burns narrowly lost to rival Sheri Biggs, by 49 percent of the vote against 51 percent, in the Republican primary runoff for the state's 3rd Congressional District according to Decision Desk HQ. Trump endorsed Republican Dave Williams lost the GOP primary for Colorado's 5th Congressional District to Jeff Crank. As of 2:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday Decision Desk HQ figures show Crank had 66 percent of the vote against 34 percent for Williams, with 81 percent of votes counted. The Hill has called the race for Crank. Finally a Decision Desk HQ projection shows Rep. John Curtis will be the Republican candidate to succeed Senator Mitt Romney in Utah having beaten Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, who was endorsed by Trump.
He was dead weight. - Voted against infrastructure deal - Voted against debt ceiling lift - Spent his focus on questioning claims of how brutal Hamas attack was - Regularly used the word genocide for Israel action - Pulled that fire alarm to delay vote His opponent was just another old dude moderate democrat who does all the normal stuff like talk about issues people care about and shakes hands.
Well I don’t think Bowman had to do with any kind of deep bench. With that in mind, not sure why the expectation would ever be to go from complete nutbar to “deep bench future Presidential candidate” type guy. Especially when you are just talking about a house seat. Were you referring to some other specific candidate in that district?
If you are saying that the Democrats voting out an left wing extremist anti-semite who pulled an alarm during a session of congress with the help of $15 million dollars of outside money is a good thing, I agree. I think that's called damning with faint praise.
A lobbying group for a foreign country spent the most money ever in a House primary to unseat Bowman, but I doubt we will hear much about "election interference" on this one. Bowman didnt help himself with his influencer style politics and inconsistent politics (he was nearly expelled from DSA and essentially disowned a few years ago for pro-Israel votes).
More interesting to me is how quickly Westchester County has turned from a decades long Republican stronghold to 66.7% registered Democrats in the most recent census. Lots of old, longtime Republican residents packed up and moved to Florida during 2020-2022 and despite claims that New York was losing everyone, Westchester County gained thousands of young professionals who are highly educated and moderately liberal, though not left-wing extremists. I don't know this for a fact, but I would guess many are of Jewish backgrounds and while Democrat, break from the far-left over support for Israel.
Unless I am missing something, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the Democratic Majority for Israel are not foreign groups which you didnt say but kind of implied with "election interference". They are American groups of Americans with American money that have interest in foreign matters, Israel specifically.
What is factually incorrect about "a lobbying group for a foreign country?" These are one issue lobbying groups that more or less arms of Israeli foreign policy. Wherever the money comes from they are essentially acting on behalf of Israel, not the US. Which seems like it would raise many more eyebrows if it was any other foreign country given the money invested.
Ha. Back at ya..what is incorrect about "which you didnt say but kind of implied with election interference"? I think if Netanyahu or the Israeli government were funding them like Putin does it would raise eyebrows.
Really, any group spending $15 million in a House primary should raise some eyebrows for whatever reason
Rather than their relocation to Florida the more rational explanation for the change in the political party identification of residents in Westchester County is the result of the decades long change in the political orientation of the Republican Party itself. The Republican Party of New York has tended to be moderately conservative on economic issues and somewhat progressive on social issues. There is no place in the Republican Party of Donald Trump for Republicans like Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javits, Charles Goodell and George Pataki, the type of candidates supported by Westchester County Republicans. While I cannot speak for the voters of Westchester County they prefer moderates and tend to reject extremists of both the right and the left. Just my opinion as far as Jamaal Bowman is concerned "good bye and good riddance".
I think having younger Congressmen (and women) of color matters for the Democratic Party. Tossing out a younger (relatively speaking) Black man for an elderly white man isn't good, especially when that man (unsurprisingly) struggles to talk about racial issues without embarrassing himself. Even agreeing that we're better off in many ways with Bowman gone, Latimer is not the direction the Democratic Party should be heading. And yes, it is a missed opportunity to develop the bench. Plenty of people start in the House and go on to do bigger things (run for Governor, Senate, etc.).
