He also gets rid of the ball quickly, the importance of which I can't stress enough. All our great ones had that. Okay, maybe not Tim, but Shane, Danny, Rex . . .

I think the right decision is to play Lagway. That said, there's no reason to reveal anything to the opponent at this point. I will reserve any whining until I see what actually happens.

According to an article on Hail Florida Hail, Napier hints that if Mertz is medically cleared to play that he would probably start.

But in the next article on that site's page, they talk about "air yards" in the passing game... and Lagway's 221 air yards... It's the reaction and the perception of equivocation in what Napier supposedly said that made me think... It's something I'll have to re-read. I was and still am impressed with Lagways frirst start..

If anything, Napier could have easily let Lagway pass for far more yards in the Samford game. And as I look back on that game it might have been in the back of his mind to not pile on way more passing yards in the first 3 and a half quarters. Maybe by design?

221 air yards, for Lagway, as opposed to 39 for Mertz. Telling, I should think.

He gives tons of snaps to Boone over McCray and Moten and Wingo over Chiles and Graham and to J'k Jackson over D Johnson and to Waites over anybody with a pulse. Their respective performances don't warrant that. That looks like someone with his eye off the prize.

Do we want his job saved to become a 7-5 team with DJ for two years. DJ is not saying to be a 7-5 QB.

I was at that game, I agree that was the crowds intent. Boo was towards taking Tim out.

He lost his job by getting a concussion? The nerve of him...

I hear you but DJ's results are measurably better. Maybe Napier knows DJ will soon be clearly better but wants to show some loyalty to Mertz before making the switch.

I want to win every game we can and hope we do. Don't care about BN saving his job, I hate losing.

But BN has a terrible body of work which we will see unfold to a losing season.

I'm sure Leak thought that as well when he returned to the field. "Nah, it's all good. They're booing Meyer for taking Tim out and putting me back in. Nothing to see here."

It would be if one equates Samford's defense with Miami's when they were fresh and had their starters in...

This amounts to Billy being able to say to those still listening when its all over "Hey, at least I was loyal to my dudes!" my response would be " Yeah Billy, but I hope you know its what cost you any hope of keeping your job!"

Every thing you said makes perfect sense, but Napier's established history doing what seems logical, is spotty at best. His words never match up with his actions.

Napier's loyalty better be to his wife and kids... as the man, husband and dad, that is still the head football coach of the Gators, making millions for their future.

Well then, it's seems unproductive to have concerns about the unknown when we do know his deep ball is clearly better. I get being risk adverse and going with the known quantity if this team was close to championships, they aren't close. Explosive plays put points on the board.

I would hate for DJ's excellence to be wasted behind a terrible OL and porous defense, 2 things I have little hope of change for under this staff.

Yep, his first incomplete pass was late and could’ve been an easy completion if it was thrown a second earlier but playing will clean that up much faster than holding a clipboard. AR sat way too long and may have had a much better last year if he had started the year before. Make this year a learning year and be ready for next year.

His play up until then is what I’m looking at. DJ instantly looked like an upgrade.
