We all love Mertz but it’s DJ time. I think he is that rare kid that can play as a freshman. I’d expect a steep learning curve and he will probably do too much and make some bad decisions, but he will be a far better qb game one next year. I say let’s take the lumps now.

Yes, we know that Mertz is no Leak, but the POINT is that we have a huge number of fans that want to see Lagway now, and they want him to start.

Me... I'm glad I don't have to make that call, but Napier had better play Lagway plenty, and not just in situations that are difficult to play in. It's not for me to decide... I am not the coach, so I will not opine on what Napier should or should not do. It's his job and that's why he gets paid millions. But there are others that will make their voices heard loud and clear.

I will be watching to see how Napier manages his team.

He’ll, the oline wants him more than an I would think. It has to be extremely embarrassing to be the guy that gives up a sack in front of 90k gators. At least DJ will get away half the time.

What a predicament when we aren't deep at QB and teams can just tee off play after play and eventually beat up our QBs. Don't know what to say about Sale but at least that one guy isn't on here already telling us how incredible our QB coaching is.

You’re not wrong. His ability to play the pocket and to know when to abandon the pocket impacts their stats too.

Ugh, but we've been watching and so has he. He sees things much differently than some of us. Wonder why? I see it more as that he's watching and hoping his key assistants come through for him.

I’d start DJ and try to win the game. If DJ flubbs it up, I’d go to Mertz but I’d be surprised if Napier sees it that way. 21-0 and then DJ gets his shot? I could see that.

I can’t stand qbs that run at the first sign of pressure but DJ stays in the pocket and delivers. The legs are always there though.

I know Tre wasn’t happy with Lags in the first half. Some speculated that Lagway had a lot more experience with the twos so he wasn’t looking at Tre as much. Of course we tried to feed him in the second half.

It’s much clearer in my basement I guess. Maybe it’s much clearer in basements everywhere.

Please don’t let the Boo-birds appear. They should be reserved for Napier, not for Mertz or any player. These playes have worked hard all year to be where they are. Recruits hear that stuff too. Save it for the grown ups.

Why rush a concussed player back into play? I’ve coached youth sports for decades and with a brain injury, you’re never wrong to do what is right by the kid. Play it safe and make sure he is fully recovered before taking another hit. Then let him play. It is after all, just a game. List him in whatever category you want on the injury report to play mind games with aTm. I’m fine with that. But first and foremost protect his health. I’ve read way to many CTE files to ever think about doing the opposite.

He spread it all around and a lot of players were making great plays. Since his passes were complete, maybe he was just hitting the open man. Focusing on certain players just makes the defense’s job easier. Make em defend every blade of grass.

That was the issue. Nobody booed Leak. Fans were booing the decision to replace Tebow after some success. But how can you tell?

No, Tre said he was wide open on that dot Lags dropped into a covered Mizell.

The problem with the boo birds is the target will be Napier’s lineup decision, but it will be heard the loudest by those who are not the target of the boos. My wife still thinks we booed Leak when Tebow was pulled.

Why? What has Mertz done to deserve to start. His qbr rating or his record as a starter? Did you know that Samford's qb had a very Mertz like completion % of about 71-72% for the game. He was not impressive at all. Neither is Mertz.

We aren't going anywhere this year and your job is on the line. You don't go with your unimpressive 72% completion rate qb. The future is here and now.

We have two QBs, both who have taken somewhat of a beating so far. I wish we were deeper but everything is on the line for this staff. I agree with you and it should look like Napier is taking care of his players. So, I dunno.
