since you are also so hot on guest worker visas, how do they work?are you required to show employement on a weekly basis, do you have to report to someone, if not, what stops people from getting them, working a couple of days and the vanishing into thin air, thus giving the system a bad look.

Employ technology. Have a company like ADP install a guest worker Visa tracking payment program for the government. Make companies employing legal guest workers take payments directly out of the guest worker paycheck. $260/year, or $5/week, and as long as the guest is paying the Visa, they can stay. Stop paying for say 3 months, and it triggers and ICE alert to detain and deport, unless the immigrant files for something like a medical exception.

Would it be perfect? No. Would there be fraud? Yes, but likely the small amounts we see for other government programs.

that is fine, but giving people 3 months headstart before going for them, what do you think will happen?

It would be great for everyone wanting to work to be gainfully employed without any breaks. But that doesn't happen in the real world. 3 months would give people plenty of time to find new employment. Especially in industries like AG, which has seasonality built into it, and there are often some breaks in employment for a few weeks as people travel from area to area.

I was reading this to understand what is going on between Iran and Pakistan but this line caught my eye

Iran and Pakistan share a 900km (560 mile) border which is difficult for either to control without cooperation.

This only makes sense logistically. But it is still a rhetorical shorthand to say that the US refuses to control its border, as if it's something that is actually possible.

while i applaud your continued belief in mankind, you do not seem, again, to believe alot of people are no good and would come in,and disapear with no way of knowing what harm they would cause.

The senate has one and some GOP House members approve of it. It will go nowhere, however, because of the clowns on the far right. They don’t want reform because they want to make the lack of it a campaign issue. It’s politics at its absolute worst and caused solely by the NJW of the GOP.

No system is ever perfect. But we can't let perfect be the enemy of good, or in this case, better. Wouldn't a tracking system that looks at how many are working and where better than the current system we have now, which is basically no system?

If fraud for government programs is less than 1% typically, why do we need a boat load more of IRS agents to go after the rich. Fraud should only be around 1%!

My system would help with border security. $5/week from current 8 million undocumented immigrants currently working would generate over $2 billion a year. Monies we can use to secure border checkpoint areas. Allowing immigrants who are just coming over for work could also enter legally at said checkpoints, and make the border safer.

Same jokers on here for years use the same disgusting stereotypes for welfare knowing they are lying their asses off while sitting at home collecting social security themselves.

Well, I don't know the specifics of the potential reforms mentioned by JB .... but this seems to be a positive move on the president's part. Hopefully, there will be some substantive and meaningful changes.

"Speaking to a bipartisan group of mayors at the White House, President Biden endorsed significant reforms, saying, "I believe we need significant policy changes at the border, including changes in our asylum system to ensure that we have the authorities we need to control the border. I'm ready to act."

He expressed willingness to compromise with House Speaker Mike Johnson, asking rhetorically, "Are they ready to act as well?" But he also blamed Republicans for "weaponizing" immigration issues for political attacks rather than solving problems.

The president said he hoped legislators would announce an immigration compromise next week. His requests include $106 billion in emergency funds for border control, military aid abroad, and humanitarian aid.

Biden's statements directly contradict past claims made by Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas about the border being secure. His assurances last Spring outraged Republicans amid reports of soaring numbers of migrants crossing illegally."

Outrage based on ignorance, as per usual. They use CBP One as the form of ID:

Given what folks go through with ID verify, and needed documents to get a New Fangled State Driver’s license in a state where you have had a license since 1970. Makes sense……
