"best predictor" doesn't mean it's the "only predictor" or that it's always accurate. We all know of exceptions to the rule.
I agree. Now if only the likes of Boebert and Palin would stop shoving “traditional” and “conservative” family values on the rest of us, that would be helpful.
The 80's are 100% back. My daughtes boyfriend's have the same feathered hair I did in the 80's. They wear short shorts (neon colored) and boat shoes like I did in the 80's. I pick on them all the time because I tell them they could just go through some old boxes on the attic and probably find clothes they would like. My 13 year old son is starting to do the same. They even want throwback Jordan's etc
What a tough challenge, ATL. Sounds like you must have been a really excellent and committed parent to be equal to it. I hope I can prove to be as able a parent as you have been.
Actually, traditional and conservative is what this kid needed. What he got was words with no action. A traditional, conservative, two parent home where the parents focused on family and kids is exactly what we need more of. My family is exhibit A. My mom and dad have been happily married for 50+ years. All 3 kids well adjusted and living happy lives. We have combined to give them 8 well adjusted grandkids. My dads brother on the other hand, married 3 times, well off financially, but chased career. My cousin was an addict who was murdered in Jax last year. My uncle has just one living son now and zero grandkids biologically. When my cousin was killed, the guilt tore my uncle to shreds.
I get As the father of two I can confirm this. Raising the last one nearly killed me. Thank goodness for the Parris Island Finishing School for finishing the job.
My sons both adopted are on good paths. Honestly, although I always did right by them, I think their turning out okay was more a function of luck than parenting. Genetics are almost unknown.
Yes, a stable, loving home is really important, but it certainly doesn't need to be 'traditional' or 'conservative'.
Hate to tell ya, but they are here. Parachute pants are 100% a thing with teens and college kids. My oldest turned 20 yesterday and all her friends and her boyfriend looked like they could have been from in an episode of Miami Vice
Can't disagree. We are all born with dispositions.I remember seeing an experiment where infants 6 months old or younger were seated and a loud noise was made behind them. Some babies started crying, a few others tried to find where the noise was coming from. But to be born evil, I don't know of any research on that.
The poster I was quoting seemingly thought badly of those values when they are actually very sound ones. I am not meaning conservative in the political sense as much as the orderly sense. Traditional values and rules of discipline and order placed on kids by two loving parents is going to work in most cases where as a more liberal tule structure and less traditional family construct is often a factor in cases like this one. This should not be a political thing.
I don't know either. I recall hearing for years that serial killers like Bundy often had two things in common: a history of abuse or neglect as a kid and likely head trauma/injury.
Some really bad peeps can come from great homes. That said a bad home doesn't help. Fortunately some are able to succeed in spite of that.
There's plenty of research on psychopathy in children. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/06/when-your-child-is-a-psychopath/524502/
