Interesting concept if the science is valid. $11B a year is a drop inthe bucket compared to cost of weather extremes associated with GW.

Could refreezing the north and south poles reverse global warming? (msn.com)

Aircraft would fly over the Arctic and Antarctic spraying particles - known as a stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI). They combat greenhouse gases by dimming starlight - cooling the whole planet, say the US team.

The first author Professor Wake Smith, of Yale University: "It would seek to abate climate change by deflecting back into space a small fraction of the incoming solar radiation."

The study found it would only have to be done in the sub-polar regions. Previous proposals have suggested using the technique across the planet. It would quickly envelop the poles and may arrest or reverse ice and permafrost melt at high latitudes - stopping sea level rise.

Effective deployment at much lower altitudes than would be required in the tropics also presents fewer aeronautical challenges.. Prof Smith said: "Our model estimates the cost of implementing the subpolar SAI program to be $11 billion annually in 2022.

Just what the scientists did in Snowpiercer. That hasn’t gone well.

This has been talked about for years.
There are dozens of examples of us thinking we had a bright idea to offset oit mistakes in nature only to unleash and equally or even bigger one.

Do I understand this aerosol polar injection into the Stratosphere would occur annually? and would that provide safeguards against adverse impacts?

If this project was successful it may prove a temporary needed bridge of time before the global civilization is ever able to decarbonize our industry and our lives.

What would stop a rogue nation from doing this unilaterally?

We should definitely increase spending on trains if we do this. Just in case.

Or someone will capitalize on the idea with carbon offset credits, which give companies a green light to pollute more.

Definition: A very common iatrogenic effect is caused by drug interaction, i.e., when pharmacotherapists fail to check for all medications a patient is taking and prescribe new ones that interact agonistically or antagonistically (thereby potentiating or attenuating the intended therapeutic effect).

    Unintended consequences comes to mind.

Its a temporary solution, and unless one is found, the lives of our descendants will be a living hell.

Well yeah, but the refreezing the polls thing would be to keep us cool from the fallout. Have you learned nothing?

We’re going to have to try something. Maybe this is the something. More importantly, will there be sales tax added on to the $11 billion? If so, we might not be able to afford it.

The difference is that it's actually based on science. Not sure about the science for treating Covid with bleach or light.

    Leaches were "science" too.

This seems like a flirtation with disaster.
