Adding the caveat that I haven't read the book, it my understanding that the focus of the book wasn't on Michael Oher the player so much as it was on the importance in the NFL of the left tackle on protecting the blind side of the quarterback.

Movie was decent, accurate or not. I assume movies based on reality are not documentaries.

The focus was on Oher but it was framed in such a way with a lot of side stories and references to make the casual fan or non-fan understand the importance of blocking. The opening chapter in the book starts out talking about Joe Theismann’s career ending injury.

It’s my understanding that if you are granted a conservator ship documents are filed with the court and you must show how you are spending the persons monies.
It also typically removes the ability of the person to sign legal documents.
Brings into question how he signed with an agent and did anything that an adult would do..

Unfortunately that seems to happen a lot in our world. I hope he wins his case. But I'm going off of snippets... I did not read the whole story.

This reminds me of the music industry, and how musicians are often exploited for their entire life's work. That is/was a crime of the century that never really worked out for the artists/musicians.

And while I agree that he should be able to put a stop to this, did he really put in the work to make this movie? He had been exploited for being used like he's been but this truly is nothing compared to the musicians in the music industry that did put in all the work... their life's work just to see someone else make the lion's share and ownership of some one else's life work.

Exploitation is evil in all it's renditions.

I think this might be a case where we should all wait before passing judgement.

the family was loaded before this happened. I am tempted to say it’s a good Christian family from Tennessee, what should we expect? The truth will come out.

Yeah, he had a solid career and was a top pick, that's probably why he didn't say anything for a long time, at that point you are basically living the dream. Now that he has all the time in the world to reflect and the wisdom of age, he's probably thinking different.

I don't buy that the movie impacted his NFL earnings due to perceptions that he was stupid. I think that's pretty clearly exaggeration in an effort to strengthen legal damages claims.

But the commentary on the emotional impact of a widely-viewed film exaggerating his stupidity/simplicity certainly adds a dark pall over what's largely considered a heartfelt and uplifting movie by so many viewers.

Can somebody articulate in real tangible terms how he has been exploited? He has a net worth of $16-$20 million. The lowest of the top 100 richest nfl players has $30 million.

Richest NFL (National Football League) Players, 2023 - CEOWORLD magazine

If he were to get one fifth of the movie royalties, which he says he was supposed to get, and he may or may not have, we just don’t know, that would likely have been a few hundred thousand dollars.

I suspect most football players with agents and “financial advisors” experience far more grift than anything we are talking about here (and I am not alleging there was grift here).

All I know is I hate that movie. Bullock was awful with her fake accent. They made Oher look like a slow adult. I imagine he hates it too.

We were never really in the mix for him, right? That would have been Meyer's first class when he would have been completely out of Utah for about 2 weeks and we presumably just didn't have the relationships established the other schools had which weren't going through coaching changes.

Don’t believe a lot of what u see about nfl guys net worth. I know a few. And know of a few thru those few. The numbers are seldom right. Some worth much more and some worth much less. Either way. Random shots at the dark based on contracts

This is what I'm stuck on. He didn't figure out until 2023 that he wasn't in control of his finances and bank accounts?

Good Christian families who loudly advertise their Christianity are rarely so in my experience.

If you assume he is telling the truth, that just confirms that he isn’t the most sophisticated guy in the world and a conservatorship may have been appropriate.

    Good read by Whitlock…

“The 2009 movie “The Blind Side” does not state or imply that the Tuohy family adopted Michael Oher. Neither does Michael Lewis’ 2006 book that inspired the film that won Sandra Bullock an Oscar.

In 2011, when Michael Oher published his first memoir, “I Beat the Odds,” he stated directly that the Tuohys secured a conservatorship when he was a senior in high school. He wrote that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy insisted that he maintain a relationship with his biological mother and 11 siblings. Oher wrote that his mother participated in the procedures necessary for the Tuohys to become conservators.

Why on earth is Michael Oher pretending he only recently discovered that the Tuohy family didn’t adopt him? Why are members of the media going along with Oher’s effort to shake down the Tuohy family for cash under the pretense that they lied to him and exploited him for profit?…”

Whitlock: Michael Oher is every bit as broken as the media members selling his ‘Blind Side’ lie
