Biden's migrant crisis will cost taxpayers $451 BILLION a year: Staggering Republican report lays out how much is spent on healthcare and accommodation - as they target Mayorkas for impeachment | Daily Mail Online

The cost of providing education, healthcare, law enforcement and other expenditure resulting from millions of extra migrants adds up to as much as $451 billion a year, says the House study.

The 49-page report comes as House Republicans push to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for allegedly failing to constrain the record numbers of migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border.

'Mass illegal immigration, accelerated by Mayorkas' open-borders policies, now represents a massive cost to the federal government and state governments alike, as well as the pocketbooks of private citizens and businesses.'

It also includes another estimate, released in March by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), another research group, that taxpayers shell out at least $151 billion each year to cover the cost of illegal immigration.

Yet we have lot's idiots who will falsely claim otherwise, just wait for them to start posting their typical BS

An attempt to have a rational discussion about immigration does not begin with the claim that Biden has opened the border

They quoted numbers from FAIR, which uses dishonest accounting practices. Among them are counting citizen children of immigrants in their costs. And worse, using static scoring instead of dynamic. Meaning the cost of educating a 6-year old immigrant kid today is the same cost factored in 30 years from now, despite the fact that statistically, that kid a working adult and paying taxes back into the system.

This Rice University study, which also looks at the economic benefits of immigration, not just costs, shows the state takes in $1.21 for every $1.00 spent on immigrants. Meaning immigration brings in close to $600 million and pays for itself. And losing the immigrants would cost nearly $100 million in losses.

There's a part of me that hopes Republicans actually shut down the border and deport all illegal immigrants if only to watch them wonder why the prices for so many things are suddenly skyrocketing (although I have no doubt they would twist themselves into a pretzel figuring out some way to blame Democrats)

What about right leaning, Libertarian sites? This is a criticism from The CATO Institute about how FAIR figures out the costs of undocumented immigration. According to CATO, FAIR over estimates the cost by the factor of 10X or more! And that's without removing FAIR's static method of accounting, which is an awful way to figure out lifetime costs. Imagine figuring the ROI on a degree, and factoring in the cost of tuition not just for four years between ages of 18 and 22, but having the same tuition costs factored in from age 18 through retirement! That would be the static method, and goes to show just how incredibly skewed and screwed up it is.

agree. But continuing that example the payee for tuition cost might not be get that full roi. Say the parents. But agree on the point the benefits are longer term.
However, I anticipate we all, or vast majority, agree we need a controlled border regardless if it’s net positive/negative cost impact.

If you are paying, using simple math, $10k a year for an undergrad degree, then if you graduate in four years, the total cost would be $40k, plus whatever interest you pay if you took out a loan. But that $10k a year would end after graduation. Using static scoring, that $10k continues until death, and if you retired at 62, that would be an additional $400,000 cost for a degree. Would completely screw up ROI because the calculation would have you incurring costs that didn't exist.

As for a controlled border, what kind of control are we talking about? Completely secure will never happen. Our southern border 2000 miles long, with many areas that aren't easily accessible. We could better control the flow by doing what two bipartisan Senate committees proposed, and that's and expanded guest worker program which would charge for a guest worker visa. This would allow most immigrants to legally cross at legal centers instead of the middle of the desert, and allow us to better vet who his coming in. Would also eliminate much of the traffic in the middle of the desert. In short, our border would be more controlled.
