I think they are trying to find a way to salvage his candidacy. I think the DNC is hoping that controlled speeches and time will give way to new news cycles and people will forget or just move on. But as time goes by, they will see that there is no amount of unification, or time, that will erase what we all saw in that debate stage — he is too old to have another 4 years in the most stressful job on the planet.

This is a pretty compelling op ed. The guy has supported democrats for decades and even helped with a fundraiser for Biden earlier this year, and says unequivocally he isn’t the same person as 4 years ago and the Biden we saw on TV is the Biden he saw at the fundraiser. Says that every single congress person he talked to in private has said he should step down.

At this point it is just selfishness and obstinance if Biden doesn’t bow out.

Along with delusion. Ironically, Biden is starting to bear a strong resemblance to his predecessor and probable successor when Trump's egotistical delusion prevented him from accepting the reality that he lost the 2020 election. Now Biden has deluded himself into believing that he is not cognitively diminished and that the polls showing him losing are inaccurate.

He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate

this isn't news to those around him yet they have continued to push him forward knowing that the reality would come out but like trump, trying to delay until it is too late.. the weekend at Bernie's similarities are disturbing. He should have stepped aside prior to the primaries. It had to have been evident then that he wasn't up to it. Those around him are telling him what he wants to hear.

When Pelosi and Clooney both send a clear public message that he needs to go, I see that as the DNC telling the Biden family it is time to go. He can go peacefully or he can go by the 25th but he has to go, it is his/their choice to make.

Agree, Clooney’s comments along with George S comment, that he doesn’t think Biden can do it for another 4 years, should resistant with the dems.

just imagine the attack ads repubs will run against Biden - and the ads will land. “What will his abilities be like in 2027!?”

What is it with our democracy now to get the worst candidates from each party.

Chuck Todd said on his podcast today that one of Biden’s own cabinet secretaries asked him two years ago if he really thought Biden was going to run again because “he can’t run again like this.”

The latest this evening. Basically same theme.

“Peter Welch, a Democrat, represents Vermont in the U.S. Senate.”

“I have great respect for President Biden. He saved our country from a tyrant. He is a man of uncommon decency. He cares deeply about our democracy. He has been one of the best presidents of our time.
But I, like folks across the country, am worried about November’s election. The stakes could not be higher.

We cannot unsee President Biden’s disastrous debate performance. We cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night.
I understand why President Biden wants to run. He saved us from Donald Trump once and wants to do it again.

In my view, he is not.
For the good of the country, I’m calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race.”

The pressure needs to build more and more and more. The people of the Democratic party need to be shouting from the damn hills to get his a$$ to listen. We're hearing more and the crescendo needs a little accelerando behind it. TIME TO GO JOE (and thank you for your service).

    I don’t have a subscription but this was interesting….

“Never underestimate the destructive power of a stubborn old narcissist with something to prove.

Ideally no one gets hurt along the way: Maybe grandpop refuses to give up his license, drives into an oak tree, and only the car gets totaled. But sometimes there are casualties: Maybe a pedestrian gets hit.

President Joe Biden, 81, is acting like one of history’s most negligent and pigheaded leaders at a crucial moment, and right now, we are all pedestrians.”
