Funny, your point, perhaps unintentional, was a subtle nod to the fact that you didn’t reference the correct history - perhaps forgotten?

Note that the Nazi hakenkruez is a “hooked cross” and rightfully should not be referred to as a swastika.

The symbol is loosely translated to “well-being”. It’s origins are from the sub-continent of India and has roots to the Vedic text in Sanskrit, thus Hindu which predates Buddhism.

Seems there's more than one reference then.

According to DeSantis and his followers, we're supposed to forget there were things in our history like slavery, the Confederacy and the Civil War. That's bad woke stuff that if taught will make kids hate our country.

You're right. I actually had been told that once and had forgotten it.

Well if they want to purge slavery from history we may as well purge everything else from the civil war.

This, to me, seems like one of the issues where there’s an in-between that’s probably the right answer.

Does every national guard unit in the Deep South with a lineage stretching back to the mid-1800s need Confederate battle streamers? Definitely not.

At the same time, there’s a few of those units where it may make some sense to keep them - particularly the ones that have units with near mythical status in general military history in their lineage. The Virginia 116th, for instance, is what was the Stonewall Brigade, and it doesn’t bother me for them to acknowledge that.

I went to Thailand in 2018 with my wife for a couple weeks and at one point we were in beach territory near Ko Samui. We were on our way to dinner in a tuk tuk which is basically a motorized rickshaw. But I got to talking with the driver and he started telling me how he was fascinated by American history and specifically our civil war. He explained to me how he thought it was so bizarre that not only did we let the traitors live we allowed them to erect statues and honor their dead leaders and celebrate the heritage of the failed uprising etc etc. He looked at me and said “in Thailand we would have killed them all”

    that’s always stuck with me.

I don’t feel guilty for being white. But I fully acknowledge that my ancestors did horrible things and I have been incredibly blessed to be born a white male in this country.

If he thinks that's bizarre, just wait until he finds out America didn't kill or punish its traitorous ex-president who led a failed uprising in January 2021.

I used to feel the same way. Now I don't care and you're glad you're white, yet I'm the unenlightened one.

I think they should still be allowed to be called the Stonewall Brigade, but it has to be in reference to the Stonewall Riot. Compromise.

Fabulous. Our military shouldn't honor traitors who fought for slavery.

I'm not only white but I just found out I'm anemic. No wonder I'm so pale. What a guilt trip!

I hope DeSantis plays Tom Cruise’s JAG role in a remake of anti-woke “A Few Good Men” on the stripping away of battle streamers.
