Better late than never? Wish we could have gotten the bipartisan bill through the Senate. Biden signs executive order drastically tightening border Facing mounting political pressure over the migrant influx at the southern border, President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed an executive order that will temporarily shut down asylum requests once the average number of daily encounters tops 2,500 between official ports of entry, according to a senior administration official. “The border is not a political issue to be weaponized," Biden said in a White House speech announcing the order. The shutdown would go into effect immediately since that threshold has already been met, a senior administration official said. The border would reopen only once that number falls to 1,500. The president’s order would come under the Immigration and Nationality Act sections 212(f) and 215(a) suspending entry of noncitizens who cross the southern border into the United States unlawfully. Senior administration officials said Tuesday in a call with reporters that “individuals who cross the southern border unlawfully or without authorization will generally be ineligible for asylum, absent exceptionally compelling circumstances, unless they are accepted by the proclamation.”
Pure political move. ACLU will sue. What power does the POTUS have to arbitrarily change asylum laws? Disagreed with the bipartisan bill. Disagree with the XO. But the move puts the Rs on the defensive when it comes to border policy.
He is the ultimate schmuck politician. He did this to us, then attempted to blame GOP. Now he is finally doing what Trump has been saying he should have done two years ago. Sounds like he needs to hand over the reins to Mr. Trump if he's going to poach all of his ideas he's been filibustering against for the past two years.
Biden is strong. Trump and Congress are weak. We need new immigration laws but the Republicans were never let that happen
Exactly as expected. If Biden wins in November the border opens back up and we get another 15.or 20 million coming in to get on our welfare system.
If this was R policy, why didn't they pass the bipartisan legislation? Answer is, Trump told them not to.
Lol Biden could start actually building a wall paid for by Mexico and trumpers would still find some way to criticize border policy.
My only criticism is that Biden ignored Trump's warnings for two years and we ended up with the crisis that we did. This was after heavily insinuating Trump and the GOP were a bunch of racists. I would not be shocked one bit if Biden started building the wall. He rails against Trump-era policy to score political points until it blows up in his face and makes his election year pivot. Helluva guy, Pedo Joe..

Well, there WAS a bipartisan effort to address the border until the republican's orange god told them to tank it. They don't want to solve it, just bitch about it.
