I'm not sure how much we can rely on approval ratings anymore. This is somewhat anecdotal, and I'm not sure it's possible to prove, but here's what I suspect is happening:

Approval on Issues Related to Biden
    • Democrats: largely give an objective answer
    • Republicans: give negative ratings across the board
    • Result: a combination of mixed results plus negative results equals poor overall results (~in the 30s%)
Approval on Issues Related to Trump
    • Democrats: give largely negative ratings with some objectivity
    • Republicans: give positive ratings across the board
    • Result: ratings in the ~40s%
IMO this is backed up when you look at how Issues are being discussed on the board and relative objectivity (or lack thereof) depending on who is being discussed.

Not only this but I think only old slow people answer their phones. The polling for Santos’s seat was close to tied. How much did the dem win by? Looked it up the dem won by close to 8 points after polling showed it as a tossup

And none of it matters, because when they hear Trump talk this summer they will vote for Biden anyway by and large.
Trump the only Republican candidate with a shot of losing the election, and republicans seem hell bent to nominate him anyway. And that’s before talking about his legal troubles.

Guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics of what people are thinking in "reality." And reality has a well-know conservative bias. (Colbert)

Many, including some Democrats, have been arguing that Biden's policies are fine but he's just too old to win or to be effective in a second term. This seems to be suggesting that Biden's problem is with the issues themselves, which would seem to be more about his actual policies. If that's the case, who's the Democrat who could win the general, and what are their policies? Also, how do Trump and Haley stack up on the issues?

Republicans almost always seem to poll better on economic issues regardless of the actual economic data, and that's an uphill battle. I always hear that Democrats are more in line with voters in terms of issues such as the courts, abortion, guns, healthcare and other issues, but perhaps people don't vote based on those issues in national elections or are at least less likely to be single issue voters on them. A lot of people (mostly on the left) think Biden has sided too heavily with Israel. I doubt they'd be any happier with Trump or Haley on that front, but they could obviously just stay home. With respect to Russia/Ukraine, Trump and Haley seem to be completely at odds, so how do those numbers look?

It's always been about his policies. If Dems say it's because of his age, it's because they're trying to provide cover for bad policy. If Biden was a Bill Clinton-esque savvy politician, his age would not matter. As you can see, Trump is outpolling Biden in most polls and Trump is basically the same age.

That is about as wrong a post as one can come up with. Biden's main critics on the left are that he is too moderate and trying to build too much consensus. The immigration bill being a good example. So is the very limited tuition forgiveness that the far left expected more. Near zero Biden supporters think his policies are too left and by your definition bad. Dont book your victory party room just yet.
