It's irrational but that doesn't mean that it isn't real. Keep in mind that Castro, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez and Nicolás Maduro all have used the adjective "socialist" to describe their regimes. Although definitely not the case it's easy to scare voters already predisposed to manipulation by telling them that Democratic politicians like Bernie Sanders and AOC who refer to themselves as "Democratic socialists" are advocating the same type of government in the US like that under the "socialist" Latin American regimes.

Sometimes, but rarely....and I'm not being overly sensitive here as I notice it with many, well reasoned posts, not just with my gems. (Now that is funny!)

Yet, the great irony is that Trump is more like Batista than any Democrat! I say this because in terms of the welfare of the masses, there isn't a nickle's worth of difference between a socialist and a communist. The truth of the matter is the elites in Cuba and elsewhere didn't give a rat's ass about the masses. That is why Castro succeeded. And, of course, like any dictator, he proceeded to ruin Cuba.

Trump will do the same to America. Those who support him are of the exact same mindset as those who enabled Hitler, and lived to regret it. It literally stuns me that so many don't see the very real threat he poses.

Trump is also like a certain South American authoritarian.
As with Xi Jinping Trump both demonizes and admires Nicolás Maduro and actually tries to emulate him.

A column by a Venezuelan journalist comparing Trump with Maduro
Donald Trump is no Hugo Chavez he's more like Nicolas Maduro
I would add that the writer underestimated Trump and expected him to lose the 2016 election, the result that would have occurred were it not for America's unusual and archaic method of electing the president through the electoral college.

Maybe things have changed over the years, but I recall hearing back in the 90's that there were Cuban American legislators in Florida who worked with the Democrats when it came to programs such as Medicaid due to the needs in those South Florida communities. It seemed that while the vast majority of Cuban Americans (understandably) despised the Castro regime, many if not most still supported various programs and benefits that could arguably be characterized as "socialist." Things may be completely different today as I don't follow Florida politics as closely as I used to.

The big messages from that graphic are:
    1) Despite being majority Republican, there are a lot of Democrats in Florida
    2) Barack Obama was an outlier

Bernie honeymooned in the Soviet Union. What more evidence do you want? His actions, words, and perceptions of self all scream both socialism and Communist sympathies.

If what Bernie did almost 40 years ago matters what does that say about Trump's first and possible future national security advisor if the Donald manages to be reelected.

    Wut? In chronological order:

    - Gore loses by like 12 votes
    - Bush reelected in 9/11 wave of support
    - Obama wins
    - Obama wins
    - Hilary loses by 1% and the governor loses by 0.1%
    - Dem run a republican governor and lose president vote fairly large by 3%

Your deductive skills are illusive today.

So is merely meeting with the Russians in a professional manner evidence of sympathies with the Russians?

    Obama himself did that.

Bernie went there on vacation during the Cold War. You’re incredibly naive if you can’t see the difference.

Obama met with Putin or Medvedev a year before he took office? Who knew. And let's not forget Flynn was paid $45,000 to attend the dinner with Vladimir.
Guess who came to dinner with Flynn and Putin
And I'm not sure Obama or Bernie did anything of this nature. Can you see the difference between this and Bernie's trip to the Soviet Union when he was the mayor of Burlington, Vermont? Maybe it's just me but I don't see how the mayor of a medium sized city in a small state has the potential to influence foreign policy.

    You’re moving the goalposts.

I said Obama met with the Russians. And he told the Russians that he’d have more “flexibility” after his last election.

While Obama did meet with the Russians while he was president it's still not the same as a future National Security Advisor who met with Russians as well as other foreign leaders as a paid lobbyist and going back to Bernie Sanders and let's still keep in mind that his visit to the Soviet Union was essentially as a tourist. Trump was negotiating with both the Russians and the Castro government of Cuba as a businessman and he apparently was still interested in building a Trump Tower in Moscow while he was running for the presidency.

I thought way back when the Pubs (The Republican Party) were blue until they had a Party Convention down in the state of Alabama... might be mistaken, but that's what I remember.
