"On February 13, 2021, Sasse was one of seven Republican senators to vote to convict Donald Trump of incitement of insurrection in his second impeachment trial." I'm not sure Trump would see that as "lockstep"
Yep, I know, just giving the poster a chance for a redo. Midland vs UF, not comparable for a whole bunch of reasons. .
Thrasher got the FSU job in 2014, so that goober must have bent his knee to someone else....good try though!
I would have like to see a President with more of an academic bent, but we really haven't had a great Prez since Lombardi. Criser, the last political appointment, managed to get UF into the AAU and was a pretty successful President although lacking the academic chops of his successors.
For all we know Dr. Fuchs is pro-life, right. As long as Sasse keeps his opinion on those issues to himself and avoids political side shows (abortion, guns, etc) while focusing on his job of making UF the best public university in the land, his personal preferences are not an issue. Sure, there may be an intersection of issues at times, but he needs to adroitly navigate those by doing what is the best for UF, not feeding his personal proclivities. But any Univ president has constituents (students, professors, alumni, donors, politicians) with varying views that they must manage. If he was gay and a big pro-choice Senator, I'm sure many right wingers would freak out. They would be just as wrong as folks condemning Sasse now. Not sure what you mean - of course Thrasher got the job a long time ago? My point was UF did not want an unqualified political hack like Thrasher and that though sasse is a politician, he is not the same. Thrasher got the job b/c he strong armed politicians (called in old favors) and bent the knee... despite being unqualified. Sasse is qualified and is not a hack. What is a "good try" you raise as the distinction stands.
As long he'll let the football program compete fairly with Alabama and Georgia, this shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure there's a bunch of lunatics going nuts at Turlington and on the Plaza of the Americas, though.
Trump did have some good policies...unfortunately logging out of twitter, keeping his mouth closed, and trying not to be a flaming narcissist weren't among them.
Got it...your paragraph made it seem that Thrasher bent the knee to DeSantis to get the job. Thanks for the clarification. I don't know how "qualified" Sasse is compared to some of the past UF Presidents, but he may turn out to be an effective Prez, time will tell.
UF hasn’t had 50k students in a long time. They are low 30s now. I believe that was part of the plan in making UF a top 10 public school.
That dipshit Thrasher was there long before DeSantis and his hot wife were governor! I played baseball with his kid. He was never there.
