Yeah, that gives us plenty of time to figure it all out. And plenty of time for our opt outs to find a new home, which was my original point.
OSU under "Niner:" 9-1 SU as 10+ point favorites including 8-2 ATS in those games. Only 1 was truly away from home (SU loss to CO), but technically the Montana State game counts as away from home. Many would think this is not the kind of matchup that our team needs, but we tend to play better against the better competition (Georgia and Eastern Washington both exceptions). 5-0 ATS as a dog this year (2-3 SU); 2-5 ATS as a favorite (4-3 SU). And welcome to the board! Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
The transfers aren’t “opt outs” and we can’t hold them hostage for a bowl game. The guys being pushed out are going to want to participate in spring practices at their new schools, which means they need to be enrolled for spring semester, which means they need to be in the portal as soon as they’re allowed to enter. The timeframe that WE have to get down to the 85 number isn’t really relevant. Why do you want guys who aren’t invested in the program anymore to stay anyway? Get em gone, next man up. We need them to leave, and we can’t ask them to mess up their chances of finding a new home to play in some crappy bowl game. We couldn’t even really expect it if we were in the playoffs. We need their spots, they need to find a new home, this is the time they go.
That’s exactly what you’re wanting. You want them to stay until after the bowl game. That severely limits their timeframe to get enrolled before the spring semester, and the whole time they’re not in the portal, their potential landing spots are being taken by other players. Again, we need them to leave, this is the time that they go. We may have another exodus after spring, and that will give us some more openings to go after more portal kids. We need these spots for this incoming class though. The guys leaving now don’t need to wait until spring, or any longer at all for that matter. *I’m not being difficult. I’m trying to help you wrap your head around what’s happening and why.
I'm NOT talking about the players that are graduates, or the players that are going to the NFL draft. But the ones that still have eligibility to play college football? They hold all the cards, and they are NOT a "hostage" to any coach or team. These players that can ans will still play football but have QUIT the team, yes, opting out is technically still just quitting the team, They are the ones that have made their move, and made their own decision to leave the team. Now if they do NOT practice and commit to playing in the bowl game should these quitters be allowed to come back to our team next year... on full scholarship... if they cannot find a new team to play on? A player opting out or QUITTING on their team is essentially the player forfeiting his scholarship to play football for their current team. Should the coaches and schools be forced to re-instate that scholarship? I'll await your answer to that simple question.
No, we won’t be holding any spots for these guys. We need their spots for our incoming class. That’s what I’m trying to get through to you. We no longer want them, and they no longer want to be here. Why are you wanting to force them to stay? They’re not all quitters either. We need their scholly’s, most of them are being encouraged to move on. There may be some unique circumstances where we allow a guy to come back after testing the portal, but those instances will be extremely rare, and reserved for a guy like Hopper. None of the guys leaving right now fit that bill. The ones leaving now, no longer have a home, and they need to find a new one. We don’t need to restrict their ability to find a new home any more than necessary.
What am I missing here? You don’t want them to leave until after the bowl game, or you don’t want us to hold a reservation for them while they dip their feet in the portal? If it’s the former, then I don’t see where the disconnect is. If it’s the latter, then this whole conversation has been a waste of time because we are under no obligation to hold scholly’s for these guys, nor will we be doing so.
It's stated in the transfer rules that once a player enters their name in the portal, the university has the right to non renewal of the scholarship.
I got a question. How come I can't pump my own gas in your beautiful state? I was north of Klamath Falls and some chick couldn't figure out how to open my gas cap.
