Morning Gators! I'm a Beav here to answer any and all of your pressing questions. Personally I'm excited for this game as it's always cool to get to know a new fan base....well almost always...and learn more about the teams. Obviously our history is a bit less prestigious (I'm prove to massive under statement) but we have a good thing going and we're pumped to get a P5 opponent. A few disclaimers. Don't call us Oregon. We are OSU, Beavs, Beavers, Oregon State or literally anything but UO, Ducks or Oregon. Be like me calling you guys the Noles, it's acid in the ear. Yes we are super aware of the color scheme and not ashamed at all. Orange and black are like peas and carrots there's a reason they made it the primary colors of a holiday! We get the innuendo and it's fair game. Honestly I hope RG3 announces the game cause he goes wild on it. Acouple quick answers from checking out the boards. 1) our team is highly motivated and isn't likely to have many opt outs or transfers. Some of the seniors have been on the team for 6+ years and seen some horrible football. I think someone posted about Kipper saying he would have to be handcuffed to miss the bowl, that will be common. 2) So far the opt outs are Wright (surgery on thumb and off to the NFL) and Musgrave (Super talent that hasn't played since week 2). The team is well adjusted and staffed to play without both but they are respected and missed. 3) Our QB play is rough. Infact it's so rough we only passed once in our 30 minute 28 point comeback against the ducks. 4) Our rush offense is brutal. No one has really stopped it all year. 5) Defense is mostly a bend but don't break. Don't expect a lot of big plays as the secondary keeps everything Infront of them. We tend to force as many downs in the RedZone as possible to try to get turnovers. We give up lots of yards but not many points. 6) Rush defense is pretty solid. We lead the P12 and no one has really had a great game on us. USC did best with like 180 yards. Most teams don't get more than 150. 7) We have seen more pain and bad football than you can imagine. If Vanderbilt and Illinois had a baby it might look like our history. Just look it up! We went 32 years without a winning season. Had a good decade then right back to the muck. 8) Our coach is alumnus Jonathon Smith and he took a squad Vanderbilt would laugh at and made it a real conference contender over the last 5 seasons. We affectionately refer to him as Niner (his # during his stint at QB) and he kinda looks like an angry elf on the sidelines. Please hit me up with any questions!
Nice first post, Beav. I'm not sure we will have more than 35 players show up, so we might not be the team that you think we once were earlier this year. But in the spirit of good college competition. I hope we win, as I'm sure you hope you win too. Good luck and lets all hope for a good clean game with no injuries.
Welcome aboard. Would like to hear RG3 go wild! Don’t know if you are a gambling man or not, but if so, this is probably not a game that you would want to go for.
Welcome to Gator Country Beav. Thanks for your post. Your team is going to give us all we can handle. In fact, we don't even know who will be taking snaps in the Orange & Blue. We should have some interesting discussion between now and our game. Go Gators
Appreciate you stopping by. I think you’ve covered just about everything. As for us, most of us are hoping we can just field a team. I believe we are up to 27 that have either declared for the draft or entered the portal (mostly by design). Hopefully we can give you guys a game.
Ours isn't Good for you You have a QB? Must be nice Our rush defense is brutal Defense is break but don't bend Hey we can rush the ball! Why you gotta mention Vanderbilt? Enough with the Vandy stuff jeez!
Good stuff, Beav, man, and thanks for dropping by. Most people (so far) are expecting not only an OSU win, but also a fairly one-sided OSU win. I do not see that happening, at all. I see a good, hard played, back and forth game with Florida's winning in the end.
Thanks for the quality post and the background info. I spent some time out in Portland some years ago and had a business associate who had recently graduated from OS. She was an exceptionally pleasant and courteous young lady, but boy did she hate the Ducks. I remember being amused that such a genteel person could turn so ferocious when the subject of that particular rivalry came up. You totally have my word that I won't mistake the Beavers for the Quackers - ever. On the game, I have no idea what kind of UF team we'll be seeing because of the massive housecleaning/roster purge going on in Gatorland. I frankly don't have high expectations of winning. But I believe we'll play hard and provide the crowd and TV with a decent game at the very least. Good luck and please post again before and after the Game.
We're pulling for you OP. That said, I'm surprised you haven't been tarred and feathered just for even mentioning Vandy.
Welcome to the board. We have been wondering for years why you and south carolina have not set up a game.
Ha! I haven't looked for awhile but when I checked early season the Beavs beat the spread like 75% of the time since Niner came home. I don't bet much but I did jump on that 3.5 spread before Richardson left for the draft.
I lived in Oregon and know your coach, Jonathan Smith, when he was the quarterback in Corvallis. I think Gator Nation feels sorry that Oregon State didn't get a more competitive team to play. Understand us, Nuclear, we had a team that could have played with anyone, but never gelled or developed an identity. At this point, we have no clue about our quarterback for Vegas. Regardless, we have a schizophrenic team which means, depending on which team shows up to play, we could embarrass you or ourselves; and perhaps a little of both. Because they have lacked an identity, it's difficult to get excited for another game. I think we just want to see this season go away. Ordinarily, we are avid fans who live and breathe football. I'll watch the game and root for my Gators, as I have done for nearly 70 years. I wish the Beavs success but not in Vegas. It sounds like the main strength of OSU is the run game. So, it will be interesting to see how this game between us goes. Here's my question for you: how good is your offensive line?
I think this about covers it. Let’s just say that the players won’t have any trouble finding a seat on the plane to Vegas.
Yeah you guys are getting absolutely ravaged with Transfers and opt outs. It looks like a lot of it is about making room for Napier to make moves in the portal and you guys have a very impressive recruiting class coming in. Not great for the bowl game but Napier is a good coach and can obviously land talent. You're walk on guys probably have more stars than our starters for what its worth haha
On the baseball side we have a pretty good rivalry with Vandy. You spend enough games with the whistler blasting and you find ways to hate them.
