I think I just heard from Sasse we are getting it. I think he was serious? go to 1 hour 6 minutes here.
Question for the experts. Can you play beach as well as volleyball? Are they played at different times of the year.?
Volleyball is a fall sport. Beach volleyball is a spring sport. Girls can play both, but that would be a grind.
Doesn't a decision like this usually take 3 to 4 years at the minimum to actually get a team on the court with an actual schedule? I seem to remember programs hiring a coach nearly 2 years ahead of their first actual season. I think it would make an interesting story on how the process works in building a brand new sports program literally from the sand up. With our overall lack of sports coverage of our current and successful sports, I doubt a story like this gets reported. Can't wait for it to start however.
So in order to add men's soccer, we'll need to add two more women's sports teams in order to comply with Title IX? Thank goodness UF is in the position to add athletic programs instead dropping a men's program in order to remain compliant with Title IX. Many other schools have been forced to drop men's programs because they did not have the budget to add programs.
I think it counts for title 9, but it’s not an NCAA championship sport. It’s in the same column as rugby and competitive cheer (emerging sports) . I would be surprised if we went that route before it became a fully fledged sport. But you never know, especially if some big donor stepped up to cover facilities or expenses for some period of time.
Equestrian is the only SEC sponsored sport that UF doesn't have so it does make some sense, supposedly the next SEC sport to be sponsored will be rowing.
My guess is whatever sport the highest donor likes is the one we get. If they like horses then a horse arena with their name on it is what we get. If they like rowing or badminton or cornhole and they're willing to stroke a big check for a playing area and seats, that's what we get.
