Speaking to your specific question no, not making the playoff or Nc game year two doesn’t make a coach unworthy or ripe for dismissal. That’s stupid, just like when people say well Kirby lost to Vandy year 1 and he made the NC game the next year. ( they are just hoping that Napier is the guy).

Lose to UT,UGA,UK,LSU,FSU and one of the lower pack SEC teams next year and things will be getting darn hot. In particular if there aren’t some coaching changes in the off-season. Do you disagree with that?

    Absolutely

I’m on record as saying this year our record could be less than mediocre and by years end we would have a stronger program. Nothing that has transpired changes that prognostication.

Are you saying we have a stronger program now than at the begging of the year?

If so by what measure exactly?

Stronger than the conclusion of last year with change of staffs.
We are finally in the facility, better athlete housing, nutrition, full time recruiting (inroads at pivotal programs in fl), NiL organization, established commitment from UAA, better social media presence, recruits seeing early playing time as a viable option vs the previous staffs reliance on upper class players, just to name a few.

All of these are important to restocking talent level and depth with in the program

sorry if I misinterpreted. I read your post to be saying “not even Spurrier made it to the championship in year 2.” I was trying to point out that the circumstances of making a NC have changed in the last 31 years, so using Spurrier as a “not even” example doesn’t exactly fit your narrative. Had the current playoff been in place in Spurrier’s second year, UF would have likely made the tourney.

but as to your apparent question, is there anyone suggesting that not making the championship game in year 2 a fireable offense?

Comparing different eras with what ifs is a slippery slope from factual outcomes.

There are more than a few who advocate for cycling through coaches looking for the diamond.

I’ll leave with a question, name a current coach not named Kirby S to coach in a title game in year 2?

Of course the answer is none. But you narrowed parameters so that’s the only outcome. Current coaches excludes plenty of previous coaches, and eliminating Smart takes away the most recent example. Riley and Dykes are both pretty well set up to make the playoff in their first year, but if they both lose their playoff game, I imagine you’d exclude them, too.

Im not the person claiming failure of our hire if we dont make the national champ game next year. Im just asking what current coaches are the measuring stick and you have provided an answer that i knew the answer to.

this makes the original comment absurd there as there is only 1 comparator in 130 teams

If he leaves….with regards to the history of Florida Gator football, when the conversation turns to the QB position, Anthony Richardson’s name won’t even be in the conversation.

Not quite apples to oranges, but Riley also inherited some incredibly loaded offensive teams...

Jordan Travis > Anthony Richardson and at least for tonight Mike Norvell > Billy Napier. Coming out throwing the ball in the 3rd quarter was just terrible coaching, IMO. 3 straight 3 & outs and some of that was bad throws from AR. But, still not pounding the ball gave FSU the momentum and they outscored us 17-0 in the 3rd quarter. Decent comeback in the 4th, but again AR couldn't deliver in the clutch. Of course, some of our young receivers dropped balls, but he made a bunch of bad throws as well, plus handed off when he could have kept the ball and gained a bunch of yardage. AR may be a wonderful young man, he just doesn't have the IT factor to be a high level D1 QB and I wish him the best and hope he moves on. This is another game, like Vandy and Kentucky, that we should have won.

Average teams lose games they should win. It goes with the territory.

The only way to correct this is to recruit better players.

Our last two coaches in particular did a very poor job in that department and that's why we're in this situation.

If Napier both refuses to use AR properly AND can’t find a more productive QB for his scheme, he won’t have a job here for long.

Im well aware it can get worse than AR, but if we continue to use him the way we have been using him, and as of this moment I have no reason to believe we’ll change, this offense will be one-dimensional with a running QB who we’re not running.

Take the OL, Etienne, and Johnson away, replace them with a bunch of average players and we’re a 3-4 win team.

Id say the entire defense is a much bigger concern than QB if AR stays, but QB is still a big issue. Same with WR.
