Wonder how many other coaches lose their best player 2 years in a row and stay somewhat competitive. lost all those kids that transferred out and putting a new team together this year. Castleton ain’t coming back fellows . He is getting ready for the NBA .
Brian Michaelson (Gonzaga) is a little interesting. No head coaching experience, but a recruiting powerhouse and he was who Few chose to sit in for him when Few was suspended at the beginning of the season. He played for Gonzaga, so he might not be interested in leaving, but he has the potential to be a good head coach.
I think Ben Michaelson from Gonzaga would be an interesting choice. Few ran something similar to what Billy D here - having an underling of Few could be a good fit. Sucks for White - great guy but he clearly doesn’t have what it takes to take this program to where it should be
Wing - 7 years we have seen teams with so much potential plagued by the same mistakes. At some point a missing player doesnt matter. We’re just a very gross team to watch. Free throws, turnovers, poor shooting — Keyontae and Castleton don’t fix that alone.
I didn't realize he was making so little. I sort of wrote him off knowing he's only been there a year, but seems like we'd be able to offer him a fairly substantial bump.
Im not defending MW or saying he should stay, but we can very easily do worse. Just look at the years prior to BD.
Petino Sr. Could recruit a team. If we get in trouble, we just say, hey we were just joking like LSU. Auburn. We would have a coach with a presence, recruiting knowledge and TV loves him. We could come back quick. But with the ticket manager still hanging around UF, we will go mid major, because he doesn’t want experience and a winning culture, just an up and comer. Cheap. Meaning not ready for prime time! We need someone ready for D-1 like Billy Napier, who has paid his dues. A second choice would be to snatch Musselman from Arkansas. 3rd, whoever comes better understand NIL because we are getting raped in recruiting! $$$
wingtee my Gator brother, I think most of your posts are probably trolling at this point, or possibly the frustrating reality of Mike White's limited coaching acumen is sinking in and making you cranky and pessimistic about everything (trust me homie, I'm about three years ahead of you there and know the feeling a lot better than I'd like). UF is pretty consistently ranked around the top 10-16 overall job in college hoops whenever anybody publishes a list, and Nova is generally around the same area. - BR article from 2020 ranking the top nine jobs in the country, UF and Nova are listed in a group of 6-7 "honorable mentions" just after those nine: Ranking the Best Coaching Jobs in College Basketball - 2021 SBNation Syracuse blog ranking; they divide 'em up in tiers but don't rank each school within the tiers, so UF is Tier 5 (14-17) and Nova is Tier 4 (10-13): On Roy Williams’s retirement and the best coaching jobs in the country Also here's a 2019 SEC coaches poll of conference jobs, UF is #2: SEC Basketball Coaches Rank the Best Jobs in the Conference - Stadium those were just the most recent I could find from a quick Google search, you can probably find more of them if you do some more digging. To me it ought to be a point of pride to us Gator fans how well this job is perceived nationally, as well as very encouraging to those of us who're hoping we'll be able to reel in a quality coach next year.
Those are some very surprising points to be honest. I would think in the SEC UF would be behind UK, Arkansas, Tennessee as desirable job prowess. Because of the fan base lack of passion for basketball I would say it would be a detriment when calculating job desire. Because there has been a small program pocket of success it gets some high points. I’ve loved Gator basketball since ‘65 so I have seen a bit . I’ve always considered us a middle to upper program. We have been to the top but as usual in Gator sports we work our way back to the middle . I wish I could say bullshit things like we are a super power Athletics Department but we aren’t . Specifically in basketball we are about where I’m used to seeing us . Before I get my ass chewed out here I live and die with Gator sports and always will. Most also know I am on the pessimistic side . I almost always think we are gonna screw it up when playing middle to lower competition. Case in point with Ole Miss . I knew we were gonna play like crap and unfortunately it happened again
