@74nole & @wingtee could better assess my opinion, but I think Luke McNeillie coming in today could be a huge boost for both him and the Gator pitching staff. No matter how much talent a pitcher has, nor how many accolades he's received, when he steps up from high school to college it's a monumental leap. And when things don't start off well in your first couple of outings, confidence starts to waiver and you start pressing a little, thinking too much. For Luke to come in in a save situation in his first SEC series and make the pitches to close the game, he now KNOWS that he belongs and can be successful at this level. And other freshman pitchers saw the same. We're good and we can do this! But especially for McNeillie, today might be the point where he gained the confidence and proof that he can be a Florida Gator pitcher in the SEC. I think I saw it on his face after the 2nd out. Make sense? Agree or disagree?

So seems like I was wrong about the ejection. I'm not sure what else could have gotten Sully that upset, but I should stop trying to guess at this point.

    So this is somewhat confusing
Heyman went 3-13 with 4 RBI this weekend(he also had a productive 6 game hitting streak coming into the weekend)....so you believe he may need a break
Garrison went 1-10 with no RBI..... and you make 100 posts on his greatness

And for the record, I don't know anyone that doesn't respect Garrison's defense. And he does generally do some little things that add value and compensate for hitting 167. And most are fine with him getting reps.
But this non stop blather like he is Johnny Bench is reaching comical proportions...other than the upside of distracting you from Cags to Fri night or Mikey being Mikey

@ocalaman — this is a natural progression that everyone acquires at a different (their own speed) pace or rate. You can refer to the three C’s of pitching—Command/Control/Confidence. One breeds the next and then one day there you are holding on to the bull by the horns…..

Another way to look at it is one day these boys will be old enough for those jewels to drop and they’ll start shaving then they will look at this game entirely different…….;)

If he doesn’t pull Luke off the bag, it’s probably just a hit. I think he gets him with a good throw though.

Yea, I dont think Sully will be benching Heyman any time soon. He was a key part of the win today.

Garrison is our best defensive catcher- his throws today were spot on and they impacted the game. Although not hitting for average he typically makes contact - bat on ball is an important commodity at times. I hope Sully keeps him in as #1 C. Heyman is fine as DH, First, and occasional start behind the plate. Talked to scouts today about Heyman "draft prospects" - he is draft eligible- and all agreed it would be good for him to get another year at college level.

This may be the baseball version of the trite saying that the most popular player on the football team is the backup QB. I can look at a few stats and see that one player does better in certain categories than another. I'm obsessed with getting the best hitters into the lineup, as long as they can play adequate defense, but I recognize that players like Garrison and Thomas mean more to the team than can be measured in batting stats. While filling out a lineup based on fan emotions is one option, I lean toward finding quality coaches who can assess players' performances, attitudes and behavior on and off the field and from the neck down and from the neck up and then find the best available options. That seemed to happened this weekend. It will need to be more and better through June.
