I remember sooo many Hole fans complaining that the game should be in Tally because they won the regular season series 2-1. And then they got a 2-0 shellacking in the Supers. Go Gators!!!
TJ- Extremely satisfying...and that's being modest. I always wondered what the conversation was like between "11" and Jamie Schouppe on the bus on the way back to Tally after Alan was a part of ending their season....
The LONR probably had no idea who Alan was. If he recruited him out of HS then he forgot him anyways. Also remember who our starting LF was that year, Gavin Dickey from Tallahassee. Bet they kicked themselves over that one too........if they even remembered him from 3 years prior.
Also Marshall McDougall and Tony McQuade of Buchholz HS and Tyler Holt of GHS can all kiss my rear end. All left Gainesville thinking the grass was greener in Tally. Guess which program still has no rings.....
Appropriately setting new forum records for thread views and replies. The beauty of winning it all in baseball - the last sport to finish, is that there are no other sports in competition to draw your attention away from the title run. We have, basically a full month of just relishing the championship before we turn our focus to football....
Lurk, Been a Gator since the early 80's. Some good baseball from 80-90's but 2005 Super Regional to me was a great great time. I know only 12 years ago but seems like when we kinda got it going. I know there were some great times before that but the last 12 years have been special and to me it started with FSU at our place in 05. With the recruiting class Sully has this year and next (18 class is unbelievable) we should keep rolling.
You know it! This will have me floating in bliss at least thru November....one thing I need to put on my list is to visit fall practice at the Mac when I'm in town for a football game.
Until the next champion is crowned in Omaha in June 2018, WE are the best baseball team in the country. Until SWAC wins a ring, it can be thrown in their face 24/7/365.
What was the Ryan Malone story, for those of us who follow our Gators in all things but don't follow all things about our Gators? And we can't let this thread die, fellas.
Greg- This one is on you---you've always seemed to enjoy re-living it the most... I will start it off-- During the 2005 Super Regionals vs SWAC....
Bill, I have never re-watched those Super Regional games. I drank before and after; I made fun of Jack Rye for two more years: I refused to sell my extra tickets to a SWAC fan out of principle; and I yelled ceaselessly at Mike Martin to slow down. He kept rushing to the mound. Each trip in that Super was less than half an hour. A personal best for him. I don't know anything about Ryan Malone and his family crying. I remember smiling when the Mac played Omaha by the Counting Crows after the last out.
That's right--it was Jack Rye making a waffle out of his face twice against the fence you had so much fun with! Gatorranger7- What I remember of Ryun Malone is first he was from Gainesville and a HS graduate from P.K. Yonge. At the Super Regionals he was 1 for 4 each game with no bearing on the outcomes. From his single in the first game he was thrown out/caught stealing by Jeroloman in the 1st inning. It was not the home-coming he was looking for I'm sure.
We have a cousin and her husband visiting today and tomorrow. They're from New Orleans (originally from Rustin) and HUGE LSU fans. They're actually not the annoying type, but I'm sooo glad we won and won't have to hear any baseball comments! I'll probably take it easy on them too...unless they bring it up
