No worries. Looks like we both went to try to figure it out as soon as the game was over. Hope we’re both wrong. :shrugs:

    @hocgators

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your post on this issue coming live from the ballpark. I have no doubt that your observations and points made in your post are completely accurate.

As you so clearly stated—the umpire already knew he would should anything else occur show who was in charge.

I will always be proud that I am ol’school. I really am not sure how far this new woke world can survive……..

Has this home plate blue ever been behind the plate at Tennessee?

I was thinking that he probably got most of his work around Lake Butler and Starke.

Blue let you guys continue to yell at the opposing bench after a bench warning back in your day? He didn’t toss Abner, and he was definitely fired up leaving the mound in the 7th. He directed his energy towards our dugout though.

Back in my day the other team’s feelings weren’t even on the radar. The umpires would step in after contact was made on the field. But you have to understand—when it was my playing days these calls we’re talking about weren’t even made.

I don’t think anybody wore their feelings so close to their sleeves back then. You stood up strong for yourself and your teammates, that was never in question.

PS I don’t remember such a thing as a bench warning.

There is an epidemic of bad umpiring and refereeing in sports centered around those with the whistle wanting to leave their imprint on the game.

I’ve said it on this board before that I don’t have one single ounce of sympathy for such putrid beings.

Fire them. Ban them. Make it f***ing hurt and serve as examples to others to stop the nonsense.

It was different when I was growing up too. I may be wrong, but don’t think the taunting and showboating was as much of a thing back then either. That’s where these types of calls come from, and they have to keep things in check somehow. You get ejected for plunking the loudmouth nowadays too, which I believe is more the way you guys handled things. Flap your gums at my guy, eat one in the ribs…

Great day for the Gators winning another series. That's how you become a super regional host. Props to Sully for sticking with Cags on a great weather day to see if he'd make the necessary changes. I feel better about this coming weekend going to SC. Its still going to be our toughest test yet but I hope we can win one and then try to win another. As Sully said in the postgame we got to try and get some guys healthy. That's what this time of year is like but they still have several guys banged up. Look for a few more guys resting this Tuesday against FAMU like Evans(knee), Langford(XXX), Riopelle(hand), Neely (said something about his knee). Look for Tejeda to start and a hodge-podge after that. Just about everybody else pitched on Sunday so Sully will have to be careful on a short week setting up the SC relievers.

That old school way worked most of the time and mostly worked really well but occasionally led to bench clearing brawls if things got out of hand. I think that things have gone too far in the wrong direction. Most of the time players can take care of bad behavior and the umps should only step in when it is getting too heated.

You are completely correct—all of the showboating/taunting came with a price. It wasn’t a matter of if it was going to happen, only when…..

And quite honestly the HC of the player(s) running their mouth would run them til they puked the next day. Nobody wanted that label.

Hell, the hounds wouldn’t be able to get practice in—they’d all be running (including the coaches).

When they stopped letting the pitchers handle the showboating, the showboating got out of control. They stopped allowing the pitchers to control things when they stopped making them hit, because then they were no longer accountable for their actions either. Now its left for the umps to keep things in check, and with that you get their ego too. Solution, make the pitchers hit, and let them go after batters, lol.

Great series win, especially given how Friday evening finished. We have a lot of resiliency. A LOT. Thank you, Sully!

We hit throughout my entire playing career. I never had an issue with standing in the box after drilling somebody. I have stepped out and told Earl that he didn’t throw hard enough to throw at me—he has to bat too. It always seemed to keep his attention.
