Baseball is the most amazing sport (other than women's beach volleyball). You never know but you think you know.

I was on the phone with my dad and son and we kept saying '' We need to win today"

It was '54. You must remember the Dumont network that carried the Jackie Gleason show in the early years. One of the Honeymooners skits was about Ralph and Norton sneaking out to go watch the Giants in the World Series, unaware that they had swept the Indians and it was over. And of course they get caught sneaking back in on top of that.

Not anymore. Clemson did have 25 come from behind wins, but they gone.

Those look awful. Fresh squeezed lime juice, just the right amount of simple syrup to balance the tartness of the limes (it varies), Cointreau and a good 100% agave blanco tequila. I like Espolon.

This whole team deserves a few atta boys. They’ve all had their moments along the way. Even those who struggled mightily at times this year, almost everyone has come through in a clutch moment at least once in the last two or three weeks.

Question for those who know a lot more than me. How does the last hit get scored? Just a single, or whatever base he is at when the winning run crosses the plate?

    Yeah, that’s a single and 2 RBIs (i think).
Way way back in the day, there was a play they now call the Bone-Head Merkel play in a very similar situation the batter (Merkel) was so overcome with joy at the winning hit (he thought) that he didnt even run all the way to 1st. A fielder saw that, got the ball from the outfield, tagged 1B got the 3rd out and the win for his team. Merkel has been a bone head ever since.

edit: damn memory. Merkel was on 1st and didnt bother to tag 2nd and an IF (the famous Evers) got the ball in from the OF, tagged 2nd and got the force there.

Well, I had to crack open the Widow Jane Lucky 13 after that game. I love these guys. Say what you will about Sully. But staying with Neely after the mound visit and then the home run will pay dividends. Sometimes you coach for right now, sometimes for later today, sometimes for next week. Baseball is like chess, not checkers.

Good question. A single would typically score the two runners from second and third with two outs but maybe it is scored a double because any play would be toward home and second base was there for the taking.

It might be at the official scorer's discretion.
