Pitching has been impressive so far. Team averaged just under 5 walks per game last season. I think only 2 in the first 2 games. Still getting used to all the new faces in the lineup. We seem to have some competition for a few positions, meaning really good depth.

 

Back home after Game 1 of 2 to start dinner prep for dining before basketball.

Last night's home plate blue was a model of consistency. This game not so much and probably helped the Gators more than it hurt them.

Cleaned up the base running but some knucklehead plays in the field. Donay's throwing error hurt but he was trying to make the correct play. That was a physical error and those things happen. And when you go for a homer, double and single we can forgive. Kurland throwing home when he had little chance and at that point in the game and score was just not the play you expect from a veteran player. That was a mental error and those bother me more than physical errors. But these guys are college kids and here to learn so I hope a lesson was learned. By and large he does well defensively. He probably is beating himself up about the play. I hope that I am not too hard on him because I like him as a player.

Added in edit: Good thing my MIL didn't go to the game because she would have wanted me to explain to her what a balk is. I gave up trying to explain the infield fly rule and the rules about dropped third strikes to her.
